It's very fucking linear but it feels like much more like DaS1 so at least mechanically you will feel more at home. First time I played DaS1, I played around that time and dropped it for a year or so. Next time I played it, I got fucking addicted.

The main complaints I always here are about clunky movement, which is from people not knowing what Adaptability is. Yes it's a new stat they added to determine roll / movement speed, as well as other stuff like cast time. Level that up to at least 20 and you're good, so it's not even a big deal. Also the lore isn't as strong but ds3 is even worse. The DLC for ds2 is also top notch, ivory king might be right up there with Artorias dlc.

Be warned OP that Dark Souls 2 is the oddball of the series, given that it runs on a completely different engine and has some things that neither DS1 or 3 has, such as power stancing and lowering requirements for spells to equip them earlier.

My main complaint about DS2 is the stupidest fucking wet sloshing noise EVERYTHING makes when you hit it.

That and they lowered the volume on Mirror Knight's lightning attack.

I liked DaS2, but that's besides the issue. Any of the Souls games can't be judged by the opening 5 hours. All of them are slow with really nothing happening in plot, or setting.

DaS2 has a complete nonsensical plot I agree, but how fucked up it is doesn't become apparent until later on. Before that, all you know is that you're going to wander through a forest to find a King to cure the undead. And it plays exactly like DaS1.

Yes you should have gotten sotfs. It contains all 3 dlc and changes some enemy placement around while also adding in some more PvP opportunities. Not to mention split playerbase. If you goofed don't worry, the differences are incredibly small and probably not worth it. Rolling has always been the best way to dodge and not hard to do. HOWEVER. Ds3 gave you unlimited stamina and irrelevant stamina consumption so you could literally roll for hours, then spam estas, then roll spam more. It's ridiculous stupid broken. In ds1 and 2 you couldn't roll more than 5/6 times MAX in a row. In 3 you can roll 10 times and chug estus after easy (Based off of about SL 120 stat investment).

Rolling invincibility is at least changable in all versions of the game, even to the degree that it can be made outright more powerful than the other games in the series. Imagine if there was zero way to make it feel fundamentally adequate again and it was a sheer development oversight the developers didn't deem important. That's the reality in a lot of games.

I liked DS 2.

I was like, oh, it's like a stripped down, arcadey type of follow-up. Didn't even try to do any world-building akin to DS1 but just focused on the gameplay with a world that could have been from any 90s action/rpg arcade machine. Power-stancing was awesome (except that the swordmaster doesn't have the stats to powerstance his starting dual swords... -_-).

I've spent more time in DS 3 than in 2 so I guess that should mean I like it more? But I feel like it's one and a half steps back. Almost pure fan-service. Uninspired and so obviously influenced by the fans hatred of 2 and 1:s cult following. And the lore sucks ass. If they wanted to do serious lore they should have just ignored everything from DS 2. Lore-wise, DS1 is a self-contained story and mythology, and adding anything from 2 or 3 just lessens the overall quality of that part of the game. You know it's true, suck it vaatifags.

Bloodborne was way cooler than both DS2 and 3.

If FROM does another souls-like I sincerely hope it will be a new IP.

But the run up to Velstadt was a huge piss off. Either killing everyone or running by, it would also fuck me up on the first play through.

And SL 1 it was way worse than the shrine from what remember. Fuck the tombs. Fuck all the tombs for that matter. The only good part of any tomb in the soul series, is seeing Ash Lake.

The Forest of Fallen Giants was a fantastic early area with shortcuts and multiple paths, etc. But yea, every souls game besides 1 could be said to be a string of corridors. 2 made them comfy as fuck though, like Heide's Tower. Shrine of Amana is shit, but Dranagleic Castle I thought was cool. Soundtrack was ok, but majula theme is the best composure through the whole series I think. Personal opinion I guess.

Serpent Poison Queen, Royal Rat Vanguard, Darklurker come to mind as personality without sword guy. A lot were forgettable though. Still had entertaining fights though

3 is r1 spam: the game. The solution to every problem is mash r1 and have a heavier shield.
Hyper armor means 2H is more viable than usual, but you're always going to be absorbing hits and wasting estus compared to shieldfagging
Sorceries trivialize the game the same way they always have, but unfortunately sorceries hit like a wet fart until you have 50+ int and stack a million buffs from rings and the stupid crown, so while bosses will mostly be made stupid easy, they will also take fucking forever. Also the MLGS is mint in this, even if it looks depressing.
Miracles aren't quite as crap as usual, but nothing like how broken they used to be before 2 was patched
You get all the good pyromancies in a big bunch about halfway through the game, before that it's poop. And there's an amazing pyromancer weapon in the ringed city DLC, but by the time you can get that you've probably pretty much already done 90% of the game.

It's ugly as all shit, camera movement and controls feel really clunky. Weapons so far have been terrible. Areas are terribly designed and ugly as hell, they're also disjointed as shit.
Enemy moves track more, animations are terrible (Skeletons gliding around the floor looks fucking terrible). It appears that sometimes you're just stuck in an animation forever while the game doesn't want to register inputs.
Barely any enemies stagger, levels are filled with "Haha, you took damage/died because it's your first time here" bullshit, "No running please slow down" fog gates.

First time Souls player with Bloodborne: Beat Cleric Beast on my first try (just hugged his legs and mashed R1), beat Gasciogne on my fifth try (got absolutely fucking rekt the first time, don't even think I hit him but once I learned to just get in his face and be just as aggressive as he was I can say this is one of the best fights in video games) but I can't fucking beat Blood Starved Beast, he enters his third phase and absolutely murders me every time. If I get caught once in those claw slashes he does it just depletes all my health, how the actual fuck do I beat him?

Also should I be dumping Blood Echoes into anything other than Vitality, Endurance and Strength early on?

How the fuck does DS3 feel more like DS1 than DS2 does? DS3 is fast and spammy as fuck, linear, can't even use a shield since everything is so fast it will drain your stamina in seconds. DS1 and 2 are slow and methodical and the easiest method is hiding behind a shield forever.

Did you play the console version? Are you retarded? Play Scholar of the FIrst Sin on PC, it's worse than 1 or 3, but still a very good game, and DLC is easily on par with 1, 3 and BB.
