Challenge mode gives gym leaders and E4 more Pokemon, better movesets, and held items. It also makes the AI smarter and overall raises the levels of the all trainers' Pokemon.
It makes the game more challenging, sure, but as with all other Pokemon games, if you want a real challenge, you have to make some kind of limits for yourself. Whether it's going monotype, doing Nuzlocke, using only shitmons, or whatever.

The last time I remember blacking out was on Pokemon Yellow when I was like 8 and getting fucked in the face by Brock. Poor pikachu.

I've always beaten every Pokemon game with the starter Pokemon and spamming the most powerful attack. When I realized these games have no strategy at all I simply stopped caring and moved on to better RPGs. Also, Pokemon sun/moon are the worst in the franchise.

Pretty sure while everything else you said is correct, but not this. Unlike ORAS's direct buff after a certain point, BW2 has to change depending on what the player wants so they just did it to the important trainers.

And instead of having difficulty options they could just have the challenging stuff in the first place(Platinum, SM totems, etc)

The whole connection thing was a failure because GF was stuck in the "Japan" mindset. It's easy to unlock them if you're in Japan where everyone has a DS and Pokemon. But that's just in Japan. Keys and C-Gears are shit to us because we can't utilize them properly.

I'd argue that Black and White are worse but they're both pretty much the same shit.
They both sacrificed everything to force the player through an even shittier story than usual, and then literal children defend it because muh N/muh Lillie.
At least with something as cancerous as DP or even XY I can largely forget that the plot existed.

The difficulty setting were in BW2 but they implemented it in the most dumbass way possible.
You unlock the settings AFTER you beat the game. In B2 you get challenge mode and in W2 you get easy mode. You need two ds to put both settings on one game.

It's worse than that. Erasing your save erased the unlocked mode as well. The only way to play Challenge Mode from the start was to have another copy of either game and a second DS to receive it via transfer.
