This killed the franchise. There's no way it didn't. Some time after its release we flipped to the "DMC2 is good" dimension which is why we got the sequels. Not quite a Mandela effect though, we go back and play DMC2 and it's still shit. Not sure how to describe this phenomenon.

That being said, you are missing the point. The fact that we are getting 2 metroid games in the future defacto mean Other M wasn't a franchise killer. Even more so when super was followed by a bigger gap.

I'll say an actual one and say the Mass Effect 3 ending. No matter how good the rest of the game was, the ending completely fucked the 5 year build up. Nothing will get rid of the bitter feeling that ending left fans with. Whenever people talk about Mass Effect, they ALWAYS talk about how shitty the ending was.
