You can, just like you can press O to attack

If you're fighting surrounded by the little trees you can't get through, then yes, otherwise you can manage it even in dungeons

Dragoon Girl becomes a temporary party member around chapter 6 or 7, Luna becomes one around chapter 12, you can't control them aside from their one special attacks
