Nope, I don't think this update did anything for the main story. You still can't leave the planet.

No idea about the scan bugs.
>>
>>387796275
Why on earth would you buy it for the Xbone?

Unknown Worlds made a huge mistake releasing the Xbone version so damn early. Both versions suffer for it.

Oh goodie, a straight shot down there in Reaper territory, now I get to have heart attacks while looking for this tunnel. Like searching for the old entrance in the Dunes and going into the entrance under the front of the Aurora wasn't bad enough. And now there's Ghost Leviathans at the Grand Reef and Northern Blood Kelp Forest entrances.

I just started this game last week

I torrented it and it already had all this stuff in it, I think I was playing the 'Experimental' build (52000something)

It's an amazing game and I will buy it the next time it goes on sale

Also my base has a nasty bug, I tried out the cameras in the scanner room and when I put them back in their slots to charge the energy consumption went through the roof. Although fully charged, the cameras drained 10k power in seconds. I just don't use them now

Man, the Reaper Leaviathan, Dragon Leviathan and Sea Emperor have probably some of the worst designs in this game, those tiny arms and goofy faces just don't cut it for me.

This new ghost leviathan looks cool enough tho, if anyone can take a picture ingame that'd be cool to see.
>>
>>387813921
Also I really was hoping they would go bigger when I heard a dev say the sea emperor was going to be massive. It's big but I really want a pant pissing experience for your biggest creature.

>>387817196

>>
>>387817196
As long as I can lasso a leviathan and drill his face until he dies I could care less about guns.
The stasis rifle is already quite helpful, even when the knife is useless.

either way, the game is improved by the lack of traditional firearms

>Why do you care about the political opinions of the developers?
Because I unironically believe that liberal gun rights are the most important indicator of a free, mature society.
>Are you willing to pass on a great game because his views differ from your own?
Yes. At 20 bucks the game is pretty cheap even for my shitty 2nd world salary, but I'm not going to support someone with fundamentally different values from my own, not even with 20 dollars.
>>
>>387814906
Playing with a friend would honestly just ruin the experience. You wouldn't feel the same anxiety/dread of exploring some creepy looking area alone as compared to with a friend. You would crack jokes and goof around instead.
>>
>>387817919
>the others came but played alone
well yeah cause there's no multiplayer yet
>>
>>387817196
The only people that is actually bringing up that comment anymore is /v/. Everyone else, including the developer who posted that comment, has not referenced that comment any more. That alone should tell you how little they cared about it.
>>
>>387818302
There is already creative mode so, why not?
>>
>>387818275
It was ONE dev. ONE person. Everybody laughed in his face and put in multiple ways to kill everything, shit you can kill the SEA DRAGON LEVIATHAN by punching/drilling him enough. Guns aren't in the game because they'd make it boring, if all I need to do is swim around and shoot every single creature dead then where's the challenge, where's the anxiety, where's the FUN?
>>
>>387817196
If I recall correctly, that outcry was from just one of the devs. The only other reasons would be for the sake of not looking like dicks for immediately shutting down a pc comment and for the sake of keeping gameplay the way it is.
>>
>>387818573
If you just want to build a base with a friend, there are tons of other games that does that. This game excels in the single player campaign format.
>>
>>387818568
Listen, this dev threatens our way of life and our freedoms with his not letting us mow down fish with AK-47s in a video game, and I and the rest of /v/ and /pol/ will not rest until he is publicly ashamed and forever stigmatized by his words and deeds.

Oh I'm fine with the game as it is. So harppon gun to pick off bone sharks while out of the vehicle would make the better imo, but it's not that big a deal.
It's the political commentary that annoys me.
>>
>>387818302
While this is true, it could be something to do only after having experienced the single player at least once. Not only that, but there's probably a demographic of people who get spooked too easily to enjoy the game, so multiplayer might rectify that.
>>
>>387818983

Are you sure? I mean, let's be honest here, after a certain 'incident', can you really tell who's joking and who isn't anymore?
>>
>>387819343
Or they would just play something else. I mean, it's a deep sea survival game. That alone should tell people all they need to know about it. Getting scared and wanting to tone down the anxiety attacks would defeat the whole purpose of the game. It's like complaining a horror game is too scary.

While there is an association, oceanic settings aren't entirely scary. The deep ocean isn't the only part of the ocean. Subnautica doesn't take place entirely in the deep ocean, as it has shallow areas (relatively speaking next to stuff like the grand reef or blood kelp forests). There are games with ocean settings that are almost entirely about serene visuals, which subnautica kinda caters to with bioluminesence, vibrant colors, and some sound design. There are tense moments in the game, like running into things like stalkers and sandsharks, but it doesn't really tap into the core of deep sea horror until you run into leviathans or go into deeper, darker areas. Also, there aren't any fleshed-out ocean games that have aliens and stuff (at least any that are well-known), so you're kinda shit out of luck if you want that.

Some people are pretty good, so the lines between baiting and genuine question are a bit blurred. He kinda sounded like he'd be willing to play (which would sorta support the game I guess) if he knew it was just one guy on the team, so I let him know.

Not really. I mean, you can argue that horror games doesn't need to be scary and be right somehow, but then why would you? I mean, this game is shaping up to be the game that /v/ has been asking for in any deep sea thread that had pop up once every so often. Now having it go and do the opposite seems counter-productive.
>>
>>387821598
Gather two Crashfish eggs and stick them into the Alien Containment. After a bit you'll have a bunch of Crashfish swimming around, gather up all but two of them and go out Reaper-hunting. Gasopod spores don't work very well against anything leviathan-sized.

>Bonehsarks, River Prowlers, and Lava Lizards will no longer attack and damage the Cyclops

Let's hope they just forgot to mention Stalkers. It would be kinda weird if they skipped over them and they'd be a pain in the ass if they did. Not that I'd entirely mind though, the whole "feed them peepers" gimmick is pretty boring and useless. At least they'd have something going on that matters.

The two in the Grand Reef are at about 250 meters to the SW and SE of the Floating Island, with the only ground even close being a couple of spires of rock. You'll likely never even see them unless you go looking for them or are tooling around at that depth for some reason.

The Ghost Leviathan in the Northern Blood Kelp Forest, however, will be a pain because he patrols just outside the Lost River's Ghost Forest entrance.

This was before the other dev went on a rant about daily school shootings and people buying automatic weapons with ease.
>>
>>387823060
This would be nice if there were actual mechanics like what he states in his example. But instead it's a stasis rifle and a knife, and that's it until you get the drill arm. Then it's just the drill. There is no variety to killing, it's just more tedious than if there were guns/lethal projectiles.

Besides we all already know it's a political statement about gun violence, they've already been on record about it in the past. This is just flimsy justification being done in an attempt to appease people.

I don't care if it's a gun or boulders or whatever, give us a way to kill shit that isn't utterly tedious.

Its a good exploration game because it isn't procedurally generated, but instead has one large 'hand-crafted' map with lots of depth
There are lots of little caves and wrecks to discover, and a good amount of them have vehicle/device blueprints or furniture to scan so you can add them to your own bases
Also, it has 10/10 swimming controls, any first person game with swimming you'll try to play after this one will feel clunky and slow

it did in the past when your only options for getting food/water was to go hunt fish in the wild, and it seemed like the fish population would thin out around your base so you'd have to go further and further each time
now you can farm plants that give you both food and water, you can have a purified water generator, and you can have fishtank 'farms' full of edible fish to just pluck out, cook, and eat
>>

>>387824972
>-Seamoth Perimeter Defense System that kills nearly every non-Leviathan in at most three hits
>-simply ramming things with the Seamoth a few times
>-ramming with the Cyclops
Best options by far

>-Propulsion Cannon with Crashfish/Deep Shroom ammo
Too situational, you can't store the ammo in any way, so you literally can only do it when those creatures are in the vicinity.

>-PRAWN Drill Arm
Decent, but tedious like I said before

>-PRAWN standard arm
Even more tedious

>-Gas Torpedo
>-Repulsion Cannon into a wall or the ground
These are fine

>-Survival Knife
Piss for damage, guaranteed to take damage yourself from 90% of the things you fight unless you stun them with something else first. Takes forever to kill anything that isn't a basic fish.

Overall not entirely terrible, but pretty much all the effective methods of doing damage require you to be in a vessel. There needs to be something more viable for open water exploration, and I would be satisfied.

>I mean, you can argue that horror games doesn't need to be scary and be right somehow

That makes no sense whatsoever. I won't deny the possibility of that just being you going "all these sheeple are so fucking stupid, they're doing all these mental gymnastics to convince themselves that everything is backwards, but I'm above it all because I am le epic intellectual who is smarter than everyone ever," but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Plus, I can't really give anyone too much shit for it with how things are.

Subnautica was intended to be like a mix of a nice, pretty ocean and the gritty, anus-clenching deep sea experience that /v/ was asking for. I feel like the goal was for the game world to be majestic, but terrifying at the same time. The safe shallows introduce you to how the game works and eases you into the world before you reach the deeper areas, eventually reaching the bigger and scarier stuff. In down time, you're surrounded by a bunch of bioluminescent critters and plants among various neato geological structures, but the rest of the time is being stalked and attacked by big alien fuckers in deep, dark oceans when shit needs to get done. That's probably what their vision was, anyways.

Thankfully, there may eventually be an alternative that's closer to the "EVERYTHING IS DARK AND THERE'S WATER AND SCREECHING HELP" experience that /v/ is looking for called The Deep. The dev posts about how things are going on their tumblr, their username is neetdev.

Other than requiring effort from the devs, adding a multiplayer mode wouldn't harm anything. It's optional, and most people can probably figure out that it would be less scary that way. The single player experience would still be intact and players could still get their spooks from there. Multiplayer lets more people to play what they're in the mood for and possibly increase sales because of it. It would also make the fact that "alien ocean survival" is a niche genre suck less.

>>
>>387831345
A greater variety of regular fish. It's fine when you're just going around grabbing them for food, but now that I'm working on aquariums and exploring more I'd like to see at least half a dozen more split among the biomes. Biomes would be cool, but the game's at a pretty good size already. I mostly just want more story reasons to go to different areas, more little audio diaries and the like from people who have been surviving for a bit and going on their own explorations. It doesn't need to feel lived-in, but my biggest problem with these types of games always ends up being a lack of incentive or direction.
>>
>>387829805
If I recall correctly, there isn't much yet. I imagine it won't just be earth fish but big. There's a big fucker with human teeth on the front page. It's weird, but at least it isn't just a shark with a weird color or something.

>>
>>387832072
>but my biggest prob0lem with these types of games always ends up being a lack of incentive or direction.
Same, honestly I didn't have any problem building the cyclops and the prawn suit and my base was self sufficient even without going into the deepest biomes or the caves.
>>
>>387795657
Anyone knows if I can torrent the new update yet? I've downloaded the game before but I couldn't make myself leave the escape pod after five minutes of game because I'm scared to death of the ocean. I want to try and play it again tho

Also have they finished the story content?
>>
>>387832957
It came out earlier today, so probably not. At least I don't see anything.

Story isn't finished yet, but odds are there's enough content to hold you over for the month and a half or so left until final release.

I'm terrified of the ocean too, but it gets a lot easier as time goes on. The starting area is pretty safe, don't feel bad if you need to stay there for a few hours and just collect things before you feel comfortable going further.

>>387833416
Thanks. I remember the Aurora exploding or something like that, should I check it out before or after it does?

Not him, and not actually scared of the ocean, but that planet feels so alive, and so full of creatures, and their sounds are so strange that I couldn't go as far as 100 mts for a long time. Is it true that the seamoth get oneshotted by those exploding fishes now? Ive read someone complaining about it on the forum
>>

After, build yourself up before messing around there too much. Once you decide to, go straight to the side of the Aurora, then hug that side while working your way to the rear end (the part further from your lifepod) until you find an entrance (you won't have to go underwater to find it). There are big creatures around the front and some other parts that you can avoid by doing this, which is probably a good idea when you aren't too comfortable with the setting yet.
