There is a "d" button in Guilty Gear. It would be confusing to have d as motion notation as well as button notation. Just like if tekken used abcd and then the u,d,l,r for motions the combos would look jumbled up. It's better to have a clear difference between normals and motions.

Want a pro-tip?

Imagine a charge move that's executed by holding back, then pressing forward and pressing punch. If you hold down-back long enough for the charge, then do a modified half circle from down-back, to down, to down-forward, to forward, that'll count as a charge.

You should never be doing straight back-forward charges, always modified half-circles
