Both games can be completed in 20-30 minutes, the main story for both hardly carry the game. 1 has a bottleneck though for enjoying the side content because of the timelimit. It's not restricting but if you hit a brick wall in progression or get stuck exploring a section of the game, it can slowly wittle down and you'll be reloading saves and scumming.

I like fallout 2 more, I feel like it's a lot more fun to roleplay in, and I like the cast more. Some people don't like it because of the pop culture references, but that never bothered me.

people who complain about pop culture references in fallout are retarded, but I guess obsidian did the right thing by including an option to turn them off in new vegas.

The reason people don't like it isn't because the time limit is very punishing but because they feel they should prioritize finding the chip rather than explore. newbies hate the stress thinking they will miss out on content but when they stick with it they find out they usually have plenty of time assuming they weren't retarded.

Both are pretty good but I feel 2 is probably a bit too big for its own good. It loses a lot of the focus that 1 had. As many also point out about 2 it has too many pop culture references. In time the effect things like that have diminishes greatly.

Yes, there are a few references in dialogue that you can spot, but the ones people point out the most are the random special encounters like king arthur's men or the bridgekeeper - which is fucking stupid because easter eggs which are as "lore-fuck" as this existed since Fallout 1 and they were always deemed non-canon from the beginning. You could find the TARDIS, talking cows, giant dinosaur footprint and a crashed whale from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in Fallout 1 and nobody ever thought they were canon.

It's worse when it's the Fallout 3 tards who pretend to have played Fallout 1 try to group Fallout 1 & 3 together as lore-friendly when 3 does so much more to rape the franchise than 2 ever did, with making Mothership Zeta canon and the aliens canonically trying to get the nuke launch codes off of the military with mind control, or Fallout 4 with the ghoul living 200 years inside a fridge with no food in the same game where a guy feeds the ghouls in the basement because they are hungry, or the guy who flat out tries to retroactively lore rape the area New Vegas takes place in by saying that there is a gigantic alien city underground in Nevada. This shit is way more of an offense than the fucking monty python bridgekeeper showing up for a special encounter.

At Fallout 2's worst of its canon content you get the Wanamingos being called "Aliens?" in the text box, their look and their text box "name" being a reference to Aliens obviously but their actual place in the setting is that they are escaped FEV experiments holed up in the Wanamingo Mine. The only other bad thing that comes to mind is the ghost lady in the Den which could just as easily be explained away by the psychic energy shit that has been in the franchise since Fallout 1, or some sort of tribal medicine powder induced hallucination.

The excuse was like that: there was actually very little communication between people working on different locations (remember, the game is huge in amount of content and was done in a year), and every other designer thought his area will be the zany one. I liked the original VA a lot, but I also liked the whole premise of a silly memey wacky DLC. I think tonal shifts like that is a very good idea for a medium sized DLC like OWB, it feels fresh instead of more of te same. The cool thing about the humor is that it's used very purposefully to contrast the completely abhorrent shit that went on in the Big Empty. The characters are wacky, funny and actually completely horrible human beings who used to experiment on civilians. And finally meeting Dr. Mobius and realizing he's the only sane man, except he's slowly going senile... It's just a really nice package that made me feel sad in the end, which is not something you expect when it starts and you're assaulted by a bunch of floating brains talking about penis fingers. But in the end, they're actually pretty compelling characters. Very flawed, horrible people, who made lots of mistakes, but if Mobius is to be believed, not irredeemable.

Nah, revolver from Den is good enough. 2 Aimed Shots per turn from the beginning is nice. It's just surviving until you level the skill to hit reliably in the eyes is a chore. In F1 bodyshots didn't take that tediously long to kill anyone.

The only railroad is the earliest guns, with 10mm pistol being a musthave for early raider encounters, which is quickly supplanted by SMG, hunting rifle, sawed-off shotgun, 14mm pistol and the like. You get an assault rifle for free before you even reach Vault City.
