I can understand anon. But if you're a huge fan of the first alien movie, then you owe it to yourself to power through. It's a great feeling to be terrified.
>>
This would be a great online game with a small group for multiplay. The players would have to multi- task between performing spaceship duties and countering the alien monster threat. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to everyone, one of the players is a synthetic traitor trying to aid the alien.

Was this game even scary? I dropped it after 3 hours because it was boring af. I tend to play scary games with groups of people but none of us were feeling the game. Finally gave in after nothing happened and quit. When does the alien actually interact with you directly anyway?
>>
>>387776292
I personally found the game to be terrifying, but I also went out of the way to immerse myself. Headphones, no lights, playing at night, the works.
>>
>>387777193
I see. Maybe I should've gave it a chance. It's just that it was moving along so slowly and I guess we all just wanted to get on with the scares and spooks.
One game that really fucked me up was dead space 2.
Played through most of it before I got the Sony 7.1 headset. The rest of the game was just so different. The ending really got me good and I was playing in the afternoon. The whole ending sequence left me with cold sweats and my arms were actually shaking. I've never experienced anything like that before and up until this day.
Now I always suggest people play horror games with either a good surround system or headphones/headsets. If not, then they're really missing out on a big part of the game imo. Dead space 2 had amazing audio work. I honestly was nervous wondering if noises I heard were necromorphs or not, it felt so random.

Anyway, I hope more horror games release soon.
>>
>>387773293
what was so great about crouching for many hours and waiting while alien will randomly respawn behind your back?
>>
>>387777971
You asked when the alien truly shows up, I suggest you go through it until you get to Medbay. You're trapped in a small sector with the alien walking around, and you have to hack computers while the alien is hunting you. It's fucking terrifying.
>>
>>387777971
I found it really easy to immerse myself within the game because the aesthetics were so accurate to the source material. Not only that, but the sound design was incredible, just like Dead Space 1/2, and the game ran incredibly well to boot.
Also, this guy >>387778151 has the right of it. Once you get into the Medbay the game really kicks into overdrive. Medbay's the fourth chapter of the game, and I felt that it did a very good job of setting up for the first encounter there in the previous chapters.
>>
Let's not forget about Ryan "SuperCuck" McCaffery of IGN giving this masterpiece a 5.9/10.

He complained about the difficulty while playing on hard and the retard didn't even realize that the beeping of the motion sensor was how the alien knew where he was, hence why he was dying so much.

I'm playing Alien Isolation for the first time in VR... I can't see how it would be any interesting on a TV. It's pretty cool in VR, though.
>>
>>387776292

>I tend to play scary games with groups of people but none of us were feeling the game.

That's your problem right here, games or movies, anything horror related should be enjoyed alone, it should be an intimate experience between you and the game.

I had too many good horror movies ruined by my friends, any "scary" part in the game becomes a joke because we cant stop fooling around, just the fact that you have someone else there to talk ruins the atmosphere of the game/movie.

You should play alone, otherwise dont waste your time.
>>
>>387774929

I hated it, it felt like a bunch of narrow straight pathways and open rooms that are conveniently blocked off for you to follow a path. You'd walk and trigger a predetermined events and then move on. Lots of modern games rely on this so it felt like Call of Duty with an Aliens skin.

Hard to explain but I'm just not a fan of the style.

>get used to the Allen and robot ai
>starting to feel tedious
>just start cashing in on maxed out ammo for weapons and devices

dropped it right there, I'm just so tired of the stealth. if you're not feeling tense it's just extremely boring. even if the alien shows back up I don't even need the super soaker, the ai is so forgiving, and the Aldi brand bots you can literally just juke and walk past

and this is on hard too, not even normal. go ahead and shit on me for not restarting in super nightmare mode but the problem is that the core gameplay is so tedious and I don't really care about the plot at this point, not enough to spend hours more getting there
>>
>>387785276

I'm not that guy, but the AYYLIUM was on a fucking leash. I had to use a mod to get the Alien to operate correctly. It could hear you from like a mile away and once you got the flamethrower you could rush everywhere and puff the damn thing away. Don't get me started on the hitboxes for the spit vents. The best way to experience the game is on Normal and even then it's still only a half decent experience.

I am enjoying this game so far. My only issue is the alien behavior on hard. On one hand I love the fact she can hear me and find me easily and her presence is always nerve wrecking. On the other hand she is always present near me and in this sense the medium difficulty is more realistic and immersive than hard, though when the alien shows up I am not as afraid of her. Since I am playing on PS4 I can't download mod to fix that. Thanks for reading my blogpost.

Xenos hunt by pheromones or some weird shit like that, I forget.

The skull is there because it's born from a human.
>>
>>387773293
I really enjoyed it. I was really tense for most of the game, and damn was that escape sequence at the end when the who station is going to heck and multiple Xenos start showing up was great. My only complaint would be that it dragged on a bit in some parts and could have been a bit shorter, but other than it was great.

It actually made Alien (the movie) underwhelming for me. I'd never seen it before playing this game (Only Aliens) so I was expecting the Xenomorph to be like that in the movie but it was basically something that lurked in the shadows and picked off people through their own stupidity. I mean, when Ripley finds it in the escape pod it doesn't even attack her and just waits there until she vents the steam.

Also I was kinda annoyed that I played through the entire game without killing and didn't get the pacifist achievement because it turns out the stun rod is actually lethal on human enemies.

You'd think that now that the dust settled people would have a more objective view about this game ?
Sure, it was a product of love, and it succeeded in being 1. A different take compared to the usual games based off the franchise (usually shooter based, Aliens or AvP circlejerks) 2. A beautiful hommage to the first movie.

But the actual game part ? Decent at best. If anything this game proves sometimes a concept that's intended for a movie doesn't work well as a game, having to play hide and seek with a good but limited AI that's either right down dumb or cheap depending on the difficulty can only entertain one for so long.

Game gets repetitive fast once you're past the first few hours, and it really, really overstays its welcome. There should be a limit to how many encores you're gonna throw to delay the ending before you get your player real frustrated. More isn't always good. Add to that the slow walking "cinematic" sequences that get old fast (although we could definitely argue the Derelict one was justified) and really, you might realize the game isn't as godly as everyone makes it out to be.

Shame the story was also just pretext to recreate as many lookalike scenes from the movie as possible (biggest contender being a whole subplot about going to have a talk with totally notMother just because)

TLDR ; Amazing love letter to Alien, mediocre game.
>>
Xenomorph is one of the best designed horror monsters hands down.
Nigga is both fucking scary and aesthetic
>>
>>387789447

Off the top of my head there are two sequences where you have to jank around a Joe to get to one of those giant computer terminals with lasers on the side while an alien is also in the room
>>
>>387776292
I can actually relate, because while I enjoyed the game, I can understand that with a game like this it's sort of a requirement to feel the atmosphere. It had a fantastic atmosphere imho, matched the first movie almost exactly. Being "scary" relies on immersing yourself in the atmosphere.
To tell you the truth though, it ain't exactly scary, unless the alien surprises you. It's more about pressure and being afraid of the thing coming because you know what happens then.
The thrill of a chase essentially.

>I dropped it after 3 hours because it was boring af
That's essentially the intro and you probably proceeded with a slow a peace. This game is long.

>When does the alien actually interact with you directly anyway?

Alien and Marine campaigns are okay, but I remember the Predator being fun as fuck.
>>
>>387779908
I find it better with friends or family. If they're goofing off, then they probably weren't interested to begin with. Scary movies and games are two different things though. Scary movies only have maybe 1-2 jump scares that actually get you. The enticing thing about scary movies is the story, what's happening and finding out why along the way.
Games on the other hand immerse you more since you're controlling everything. It grips people more in a sense.
Anyway, I never had problems playing scary games with a group. It simple, one person plays until they physically scream or flinch from playing and they pass the controller along. Groups silent most of the time other than when telling each other what we think is going on and such.. I totally understand where you're coming from but compared to the games I played during that time it just wasn't doing it for us. I had the dam controller for 3 hours. Other games start to scare from the beginning to the end, scare after scare. All we were getting was glimpses that the alien is there repeatedly and we just wanted the dam thing to chase us already. I'll just take the word from all the anons here that it's a long strung out game. Maybe I'll visit it again later on by myself.
>>
>>387791870
