After many years of service, my first and only PS3 controller died. Should I pay $40-60 for a "genuine" controller that is probably fake, or buy a $15-20 replacement?
Any recommendations for a decent brand of replacement?

Why not get a DS4? I'm pretty sure its compatible with PS3

I've read the PS button doesn't work, and it also doesn't work in some games.

ps3 controllers are still $40-60?
1st party accessories are always the best choice.
dead how? can't you just replace the battery or solder on a new charging port?

Yes, but you can't buy them from anyone reputable. Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, etc they are all from 3rd party sellers, which means 90% chance they are fake.

I know, I've never bought a 3rd party controller in my life. This is the first one that has ever broken. Very irritating.

Can't get it to turn on at all, even when plugged in. Took out the battery and tested it with a multimeter and it had the right voltage, so it seemed fine. Tried multiple cables and plugging it into my PC. Was really hoping it was the battery.
In case you dont know OP, you can actually use PS2 controllers on the PS3 using an USB adapter. You are only fucked when it comes to use the PS button.

Thanks, I forgot I had one of those. I think I'll just buy a cheap PS3 controller and if it is shit I can just use it for a PS button while using my PS2 controller.
Perhaps the USB port broke off the circuit board

I took it all apart and nothing looked wrong. I don't know a lot about electronics though. I didn't see any burn marks or anything and the USB port seemed fine.
