But 1, I feel, is closest to Will Wright's vision, and to the classic nature of the SIsm games. Sims 2 onwards felt more EA, while The Sims 1 still has that classic Maxis feel

Also, tis the difference between Isometric viewpoint and in-depth 3D. The latter may be better, but sometimes you want to play with your human aquarium like its Simcity.

Lastly, its the nostalgia. The Sims 1 is a game I'd want to return to the msot, out of all of them.

Besides buttersilk performance, all I can think of is improving 3's quality to detail and depth without short cuts just to make the open world work. No rabbit holes, playing around on lots as jobs, no teleporting clipping vehicles, actually driving onto or off parking spots and ramps, multi tasking by doing interactions with still chatting up other Sims in the same room, like real people can do, curves and circles for lot building, like rounded decks and roofs. Little things like this I imagine even you copy pasted 3 intact would be a big enough improvement to surpass 3.

In 3 just talk about the shit that is relevant to their traits and you go from stranger to married in about 3 minutes. That's even without all the socializing bonuses you can get. If you make a sim that is charismatic and can play guitar just set up shop busking on a community lot and it won't be long before you have maxed out relationship with every single person in town.

There are mods for Sims 3 that fix the difficulty if you want it to be harder. One doubles the penalty for negative moodlets while halving the bonus for positive ones. Combined with a Higher Bills mod it makes the game pretty hard for someone who's played the sims a lot.

An indie dev team might be able to do Sims 1, but what we actually want is Sims but better and that's just not possible for indies. They don't have that kind of money.

nah Sims 3 was fine, the problem was they spaghetti coded it pretty badly and Sims 3 has a memory leak that was never fixed. Combined with the game doing a Kerbal Space Program and loading EVERY file, mod, clothing, expansion on every loading screen all the time means you get long loading times unless you stick to 2-3 expansions and no Custom Content.

It's worth putting Sims 3 on an SSD, makes such a difference.

And I'm talking about the Gameplay. Having decent graphics on Sims level isn't that hard, you just need somebody competent at modelling and texturing that trucks along, since it doesn't have to be insanely high quality. But gameplay-wise Sims 1 was incredibly barebones. No aging, Jobs were very simplistic, as were social interactions. You barely had anything to do. The add-ons helped a bit with that, but it was all built on quite simple building blocks. Which is why Sims 2 was such a revelation, Sims 1 was a lot of fun and here comes Sims 2 and kicks everything up a notch. People wouldn't just want Sims 1, they'd want a lot of the features of later games like aging, more detailed social interactions and relationships, memories, personalities, goals, specific items and interactions, events, way better AI (especially for NPC Sims), probably Open World. And that's not even touching on stuff like Pets, Weather, Seasons, Supernatural stuff and so on that a lot of people feel like should be in the main game.

The problem of a Sims clone is that it needs to be significantly better than Sims to do well, because Sims is still around. Hell, it would also compete with Sims 2 and 3 because a lot of people still play that. So just being a bit better wouldn't cut it, it'd need some significant pull to beat out the brand recognition and loyalty that people feel for it. Cities and Planet Coaster filled a void, but Sims is still very much around and kicking.

They need to live off something. And that's also the way you get the much hated "lazy pixelshit games" - if you are developing a game alone in your spare time, you need to cut corners somewhere if you ever want to release the thing.

No, it wouldn't. It's a proper dev tool and so it's therefore pretty tricky and confusing to your average end user. Relatively speaking it's actually really easy to use but given the number of people I've seen claim it's utterly incomprehensible I think they made the right choice splitting it off. Some things just can't be simplified any more.

You can edit existing neighborhoods with relative ease in the base game, you just can't edit the landscape too much. If you really, really want to do that then there is the option there for you with CAW but you need to be prepared to learn how some things work under the hood, e.g. pathing, performance, etc.
