Have you seen the dev?
He is a giant lardass and they call his game a blobber to mock him.

They are not nice people at the Codex.

Read the whole review. Seems fair on the game (and still way too positive in some of its aspects)

Looking forward to the response on the Codex. The drama has been sustaining me.

He didn't even know you could right click on the combat icon, and he turned off random encounters and then complained about the "broken combat" and lack of XP...
>>
man that review sure is something

don't think i'll even bother pirating this
>>
>>387746287
You get jack shit exp from random encounters
>>
>>387743912
Really sounds like a game that has a lot of heart behind it, but also could really, really have used a second set of eyes to see all the obvious flaws that exist in it.
>>
good reviewer, does he post anything outside of RPG codex?
>>
>>387746287
I'm pretty sure the right click comment is talking about how you can't leave windows by pressing the right mouse or cancel actions.

And even if encounters are set to frequent, with the way enemies give exp, you'd need to spend hundreds of hours grinding to get to a level that allows you to multiclass. Cleve himself admits its broken (But of course, he would ban me if I said this on his shitty dictator steam forums)

>Yet even beating the most powerful foes the game threw at me felt unfulfilling. Enemies never drop anything except a few keys for chests, and XP rewards are also completely unbalanced. In the same area you might fight weak enemies that give you 4,000xp, while the deadly ones will give like 100xp. By the end-game my characters needed around 200,000xp to reach the next level, but enemies there gave only like 500xp - and the game's final quest gave me only 9,000xp! As a result, I never reached level 10 with any character, and never could try the whole class change feature that supposedly allows you to unlock classes like Pirate, Assassin and Jester.
yeah what an idiot, all he had to do was grind out 400 encounters or so
>>
Finally, I was waiting for a Codex review to see if I should buy this or not, the game seems like shit so... too bad.
>>

Frog memes.
>>
>>387746634
Don't believe the sape. He has no clue what he's talking about and is merely an agent of decline. Cleve is gonna rightfully sue him for defamation. The game is well worth 40 bucks if you ask me.
>>
>>387746245
Cleve is the Molyneux of release dates. Anyone who expects the manual to come out before November hasn't been paying attention.
>>
Spiders in the oracle area give 1k+ experience each if you really want to powerlevel.

The worst are enemies that can 1 hit and move very fast, like dragonflies.

>>
The Codex is already killing him for daring to criticize this masterpiece

>I barely played it and even I know that food increases your vit so you don't have to rest every few steps. I guess the biggest indictment of Grimoire is that even someone who needs to learn2play can beat it.

>At least after reading this I know where felipepe's biggest anal pain comes from. He can't live with the injustice that Cleve charges 40 bucks for his game while his precious weaboo crap is being sold for the same price as a six-pack of toilet paper.
>>
>>387746926
That's not hard when Unchained Blades is better than EO
>>
>More than "just" bugs, entire features are like Hunger and the Metallurgy skill aren't working yet. >>387746862
You'd have to have more than 85IQ to actually play the game like every other classic blobber is meant to be played, I don't think hues can into that.

Stop bullying Cleve.
>>
>>387746448
That's what you get with madmen who create games alone. They have nobody restraining their vision, so they can do all sorts of crazy shit that no-one would fund, but then they also do weird and harmful mistakes that could easily be prevented by having some outside feedback. Unfortunately, people like that are usually too stubborn to care about any feedback even if someone happened to give it to them.
>>
>>387747083
Or they could just read Cleve's posts about the game where everything is explained in detail, including features that won't be in until V2, and what he's working on, what bugs there are, etc.
>>
>>387747087
Don't call them blobbers
>>
>>387747210
People paid 40 bucks for this. The least they could expect is skills that actually work.
>>
>>387747214

>>
>>387747337

Most people that payed for the game are enjoying it. Steam forums are full of a militant defense force. The people shitposting about it did not play the game and are just looking for drama.
>>
>>387747320
Why? There has never been a single blobber in the 90s that had no bugs and no blatantly missing features, half of the skills in Wizardries did nothing.
>>
>>387747517
Nah, only weeb fuccbois say DRPG.
>>
>>387747320
Broken, non-working stats in classic CRPGS are nothing new. I understand that you personally hate Cleve and will spend much of your time slandering him here and anywhere else, but an unbalanced RPG with disabled/non-working mechanics is nothing new to the genre. We also have the great, good fortune of Cleve being an honest man and a perfectionist, and he will fix it.

First the game will not come out. Then the manual will not come out. Then the new versions will not come out. And then...and then...I'm not sure what the end-game is here, we have no reason to believe Cleve will drop support here.
>>
>>387747637
>Broken stats and imbalance is fine because old games did it
This is why /vr/ is a joke

Mondblut tells it like it is.
>>
I played like half an hour of this. With an interface that horrible, I can't see why anyone other than masochists would want to play this shit. Maybe Cleve will patch it into being fun in a few decades.
>>
>>387747637
>you just aren't used to eating shit yet
Good to hear he's still working on it. I'll set a calendar reminder for myself to check back in 23 more years to see if anything's fixed.
>>
>>387747795
That guy proceeded to argue that you can't dislike a game if you weren't there to play it at the time.

He reads to me like the biggest Nostalgiafaggot of all time.
>>
>>387747795
>You want games that "break the rules" - but only those that don't to it enough to break out of your narrow comfort zone. We need a "bold" sequel to Wizardry, but it can't be Strangers in Sword City, Elminage: Gothic, Generation Xth or any other JRPG because then the art breaks YOUR rules.
Mondblut gets owned
>>
>>387747942
That's the entire defense force. It's a bunch of oldfags praising Cleve for releasing shit just because it reeks of the '90s.
>>
>>387747791
>I'm too stupid to realize a game can be good despite it's flaws
I can't even begin to imagine what kind of sterile trash you consider to be a good game.
>>
>>387747942
It's true though. It's like judging historical events and actions of historical figures through the lens of current ideology and morality, for example.

This is a literal 90s game, not a "haha we're le hipsters born in le 1999 and we make le 90s retro gaem 4u guize", if you don't understand the difference, let people who do enjoy it and you enjoy yours.
>>
>>387748146

Don't think, buy it. Ask your petty questions after you've made it pointless for them to be addressed.

The level design is great and that's what matters most. Bugs can be fixed, mechanics can be tweaked, but a game's level design is almost always final.

Grimoire is a pretty deep cut. Better games to start with:
>Lands of Lore
>Dungeon Masters
>Eye of the Beholder
>Might and Magic 3-5
>Wizardry 7

I like Grimoire a lot but Grimrock is pretty much mobileshit and you have just scratched the surface of what the genre is like. Might be a bit shocking to jump straight into something like that.

This is how many exp my bard had at level 9 and how many he needed to get to level 10, this after I finished the game. Do the count of how many spiders I'd have to kill there. Also, it is impossible to change to Jester at level 10.
