I grew up with the SNES but once you experience something regularly that is above what you are used to you learn to see that as the norm.
I play at 144hz now so even 60 can seem choppy then you go to 30 which is just terrible.
The input lag and choppiness becomes noticeable to anyone that actually understands what that means.
Consoles are getting even more PC like and from my experience have way more updates than the games I have on PC. So convenience as an argument is dying.
On Steam you set up an account, buy a game, download and start playing when its finished.
That is no different from consoles right now.
I have all of the consoles bar the Switch and the only reason I even touch my XBone is because of my friends. Most of which I have let use my PC and XBone since they are side by side and they noticed how much better it was.

On a console, I press a button and the game plays. It's that fucking easy. The moment there's a frontend worth a damn for PC that allows native controller support is the day I leave console gaming. There's nothing even close to that on PC though, not even Big Picture mode in Steam.

You misunderstood what I said. I'm saying that we don't know what the trade off for this is. I can make any game run at 4K on my PC, but if it's at 15 FPS then it's not worth it.

The prevailing thought is that the Xbox One X will have some kind of a better upscaling method to offer that 4k and not actually run at 4k.

The only real problem with optimization is low level programming which wasn't available on PC until D3D12, with D3D12 available now there is zero reason to push the console ecosystem for performance optimizations.

With Vulkan, another low level API, there is even less reason to push consoles as a means to an end for optimization.

The only real difference that exists now is on a pure hardware level, which is easily manageable with modern standards. OS takes a fraction of the resources necessary to run games, conversely most games don't even fully utilize the processing power of modern hardware, so the OS application layer consuming resources is a misconception.

I'm a PCfat and even I know that consoles area better value at their price point. Consoles are literally sold at a loss because the money is made back on software sales and online subscriptions. A PC that is about 2x more expensive would take a console's ass and make them eat it, but you won't beat a console with a PC at the same price unless you're dumpster diving for parts.

Well let me solve your doubts by saying I get 60 fps on well optimized AAA games at 4k with that rig. I even added ram and a cooling system which is an upgrade I didn't have to make, but wanted to because I appreciate the freedom my PC allows me.
