Why are the SAS in videogames always wearing black and gas masks?
>>
>>387741631
It looks cool
>>
>>387741631
Because that's their image in media. I imagine they use different kinds of gear, but the black uniform + gas mask is very prevalent in pictures.
>>
>>387741631
That's their iconic look
>>
>>387741631
because of that one famous raid in which they had to wear gas masks
>>
They're supposed to remain anonymous. Also it's spooky and makes them unique.

Gas masks make everyone look like an alien.

Why do British units in modern games always have a token Indian?

It's mostly because it's unique

That said, I've always thought it would be more intimidating having guys like this coming at you than ones dressed in regular military gear. Though I guess you get shot either way.

Are the SAS really that good or is it just a meme?
>>
>>387743705
Supposedly the australian SAS is as good or better. I guess you'd need to be to operate upside down.
>>
>>387743830
The Aussie SAS is just the British SAS.
>>
>>387741631
It's because the Iranian Embassy Siege is the single most well-recognized example of the SAS in action. In the public's eye the SAS's gear apparently haven't advanced one iota in over 35 years.
>>
>>387743705
Considering how fucking hard it is to become one, probably.
>>
>>387743954
It wasn't a yes or no question, you fucking dunce

>plunged the world into coally, poorfag darkness
Yeah sure man, we'll always have that going for us.
>>387743694
But it left huge British influence upon the Indian army structure, and furthermore lead to England being one of the Indian immigrant's first choices (which is fair -- we'd emigrated there, after all).
>>
>>387743705
The meme is part of what makes them good. Same with gurkhas.

they were the first established modern Special Forces
>>
>>387743705
As a general rule of thumb, most modern special forces units are pretty damn good at their job (ignore Unit 777), if they weren't then they wouldn't be worth bothering with.
>>
>>387741871
If I could get away with it I'd walk around all day in a gas mask
>>
>>387743705
I know someone who was in the army and was part of a training exercise for the SAS.
They all had to defend a warehouse and checked in with each other once a minute on radio.
The guy said he was just patrolling the only door into the warehouse and he got tapped on the back and was told "your dead, go stand with the others"
Low and behold the 'others' where about 50% of the squad that was defending.
>>
>>387744185
Still one of the best MS paint creations
>>
>>387741631
They actually use blue uniforms in Siege. They just look darker in the artwork.
Or maybe they made them lighter.
>>
>>387741631
They are mostly jews.
>>
>>387744518
I watched a documentary from the 1980s about special forces in the UK. It wasn't technically SAS, but it was the mountain equivalent of them.

There was a training task where they had to get into a guarded base and plant explosives on a radio tower. It was very dark and at night, so it was difficult to make anything in particular out, but the documentary crew watched the mast the whole time. A few hours later they checked in expecting that it was a failure, then got told they'd finished an hour ago and the explosives were on there.

I'm paraphrasing a bit, but the message was there. They're fucking good at their job.

There's pohots of them preparing to breach a building dressed in that exact getup. Very intimidating.

Red Cell videogame when?

>After relinquishing command of SEAL Team SIX to CDR Robert Gormly, Richard Marcinko was tasked by Vice Admiral James "Ace" Lyons, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, with the design of a unit to test the Navy's vulnerability to terrorism. This unit was the Naval Security Coordination Team OP-06D, unofficially named Red Cell. In 1984, Marcinko hand-picked twelve men from SEAL Teams and one from Marine Force Recon.

>This team tested the security of naval bases, nuclear submarines, ships, civilian airports, and an American embassy. Under Marcinko's leadership, the team could infiltrate seemingly impenetrable highly secured bases, nuclear submarines, ships, and other purported "secure areas" such as Air Force One, and disappear without incident. These demonstrations showed that a vulnerable military resulted from the replacement of Marine and Naval Military Police by contracted private security agencies often staffed by retired military personnel.

>Marcinko has claimed, among other things, that Red Cell successfully captured nuclear devices from United States Navy facilities, and proved the viability of plans to:
> penetrate and attack nuclear-powered submarines
> destroy subs by using them as dirty bombs
> capture launch codes for nuclear weapons aboard the subs by using mild torture techniques on personnel in charge of launch codes.

>In 1986, Marcinko was relieved of command from Red Cell and investigated for the next two years by the Naval Investigative Service (NIS) for alleged corruption and procurement irregularities while commanding SEAL TEAM SIX.

At what point do you become a terrorist yourself?

It's like the NSA developing all that ransomware. Surely doing it in the first place leaves you open to it being abused.

Marcinko is an interesting man, y'know he named the group "SEAL Team Six" to confuse the Russians into thinking there were 5 other SEAL Teams?

Not really, you need more than one person to activate any nuclear devices.
