DS1 had the best exploration in the series. The other ones didn't feel as exciting when it came to discovering new areas, especially since you could bonfire-teleport everywhere. Exploration isn't exciting when you're surrounded by teleporters.

It was great, but not perfect. Izalith could have been really interesting if they didn't run out of time and copypaste dragon asses everywhere. There was heaps of stuff that got cut.
