Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
It took me a full minite to realise this wasn't a photo. Hopefully the gameplay lives up to the same standards of the graphics. Red Dead is one of my favorite games of all time.
>Plebs never heard of ZBrush
>Or just 3DMax with photoshop
You guys know you can just use real photos as textures right?
>>387722198
This is just texturing 101, Half Life 2 guns are scratches & wear on them in 2004
>not interested in Red Dead 2 because single player
>announce it's going to be more multiplayer focused
>somewhat interested in it now
Will it come to PC eventually? I don't buy multiplayer games on my PS4
CAUGHT IN A LANDSLIDE
>>387722198
lmao bump mapping so impressive
>>387723169
It is impressive tho.
>>387723027
These imperfections are normal mapped though. They actually properly reflect lighting and give the illusion of 3D models even though it's a 2D texture. Pretty impressive for the hammer of a revolver.
>>387722896
Apparently you have never heard of Substance Painter. You just drag and drop smart materials. You don't use real photos lol.
This is what is allowed when your last game makes you a quarter of a trillion dollars.
>>387723061
>not interested in single player games
you are whats wrong with the industry right now
slit your throat
>>387723169
Probably not even bump mapping, just a flat texture.
>>387722198
>idiots will be impressed by this
why not talk up something that doesn't take 2 seconds to do
>>387723404
I'm going to go play some Monster Hunter (no story) and then some PUBG (no story)
If you want a story, go read a book you virgin lmao
>>387723404
>Play against AI
>It's either piss easy, or insanely input-reading hard.

>An infinite array of skill to deal with
>Infinite numbers of strategies from good, to extremely bad
>Every choice, good or bad, the enemy makes is one they made themselves, because they, a human made the choice, and that is magical
No u
Damn, you mean the texture artist spent a total of 5 seconds in photoshop re-creating a feature he has seen on a revolver that he just found on Google Image search? So impressive.
Shame that detail will be lost when the texture resolution is decreased to 200x200 to get the framerate up on consoles.
>>387723404
Unironically this
>>387723606
If you want multiplayer go play a real sport you virgin lmao
>>387723839
I play golf and used to play baseball in college. I live next to a driving range and went yesterday. Wanna hunt some monsters, virgin?
>>387723696
>Play against human
>Infinite numbers of strategies from good, to extremely bad
You wish anon. Multiplayer boils down to looking up the most recent meta online and executing it
>>387723327
Normal maps are standard procedure for any 3d model. This guy is making it out as if he's painstakingly hammering little dents in tiny metal gun parts when really he's just clicking a few random times with a mouse in his company's texturing program of choice and calling it a day. You can do that shit in 5 minutes.
>>387723061

Of course

texturing is a fucking joke today, which is a great thing for indie devs.
I look forward to all the revolvers having identical impercetions. Good job artist.
>>387723943
I too, can make up shit on the internet.
>60fps was sacrificed for minor details nobody would've noticed if it wasn't in a tweet
Hyperrealistic artstyles were a mistake

>This guy is making it out as if he's painstakingly hammering little dents in tiny metal gun parts when really he's just clicking a few random times with a mouse in his company's texturing program of choice and calling it a day.
Not even that. Most artists now days use software which have drag and drop materials which can randomly generate imperfections etc. You don't have to sculpt every minute detail.
>>387723169
>bump mapping
Doubt it. It's probably just a flat texture.
>>387723950

Yeah, I'm totally making this up. So, you wanna hunt some g-rank stuff?
>>387723327
the gun is a cutscene model anyway, cutscenes typically use higher quality assets
>>387722198
Neat but is the game more than riding to a location then having a shootout?
>>387723728
Consoles are powerful enough to have 4k textures nowadays man. The gap isn't as wide as it used to be
>>387724443
This game is console exclusive
will rdr2 have online similar to gtaV? i wanna pimp my horse and rob trains with my buddies
>>387724167
>Texture artists no longer need to hand paint things since computers can do 90% of the work for them, decreasing job opportunities
>Modellers no longer need to hand sculpt things like environments since scanning software can auto-create models based on real life objects/locations, decreasing job opportunities
Us 3D animators are safe though, r-right?
>>387724603
Xbone/PS4/Pro versions probably will be a bit shit, i expect the Xbox X version to be nice if R* actually optimize it
PC release when?

>>387724775
>trying to rob a train

>>387724847
Once models have been completed, the AI can animate from mocap or learn to do it. The days of animators are coming to a close.
>>387724697
Sure it is. Just like GTA V was never coming to PC right?
>>387724847

>>387722675
Since it's on console don't expect graphics anywhere near that good. I hope I'm wrong too but let's be real.
>>387725245

>>387725156

>>387724949

>>387722198
This game is making everyone shake in their boots.
Typical Rockstar though, they're use to the pressure.
>>387722675
Unzoomed, it looks like a real picture. When you open up the picture it's easy to tell it's not real. It's the fingers.
If the gun was lying on a table and though I wouldn't have been able to tell it was a video game gun.
>>387724847
IN the future games will be 90% made by robots.
>Go out in the woods and take a few pictures, robots make the world/environment
>Take a few pictures of guns, robots model and texture them
>Have someone mocap actions, robots create animations
The only thing robots can't do is voice act and bugtest.
>>387725528
you joke, but we've had this for years now. not totally automatic, but things like using IK to "teach" your animation. you don't have to hand animate your character running down stairs if you already animated him running, you just let it know that if your elevation is at a certain angle, it will adjust your character's run animation accordingly.
>>387726684
we already have synthesized voices anon
>>387723943
>I play golf
Big deal, so do I. Driving range isn't golfing and carrying your bag around while waiting on groups of people to finish up isn't multiplayer.
>>387726937
But they don't have any emotionyet
>>387724357
you are correct but not for the reason you think that you are, /v/ is impressed when a game does something new, but is not impressed when a game does something crysis did 9 years ago

It's literally 2 clicks in Substance Painter, and yes, normal maps and all other maps included. If you want them in a specific place, add a fill layer, a mask, and paint in some, it will dynamically create imperfections, mud, scratches, whatever the fuck you want.
>>387730780
You guys keep saying it's not impressive but refuse to post a game doing a better a job
>sculpt a few tiny holes in zbrush in 3 seconds
>get that detail by baking high poly to a normal map
Or
>paint the detail with some normal map brush in substance painter

Practically 0 time and effort needed and no negative influence on a performance.

1. GTA:O Makes fucking bank, especially on PC where it constantly sells due to all the people they bank
2. It's being developed as a core part of the business, rather than a way for a substudio to kill time
3.A rockstar employee confirmed it
>>387732125

>>387722675
The graphics won't look that good. It's (relatively) easy to make graphics that good these days but once the time comes to optimize the game for release, they'll have to make some concessions.
Why should this be considered impressive? Adding such a minor detail wil really be barely noticeable(only in cutscenes if you're close enough)
