But there aren't situations in the game where he can run offscreen and get hit. Any instance of that is intentional and you'll hit either a spring or slow down with no enemy in the path. Also it isn't a glitch you stupid fucking moron.

The entire last zone, i can forgive oil ocean cus SOME of it is nice but the whole last stage is just bad in all aspects. I've never encountered a "go through X numbers of portals and do random challenges in whatever order" level that was fun or had flow to it, also super secret last boss is just obnoxiously unpleasant to fight and makes me wanna void emeralds now
still my favorite sonic game most likely cus i see more replayability in it than 2 or 3, but it ends on a low note for sure

I never game-overed there, it's just not a fun stage, not that interesting visually, and i can't even REMEMBER the music, compared to the other 3 knock out original stages it was just a bummer
