Are you talking about the boss? I actually just finished the FBZ for the 3rd or 4th time yesterday and I consciously tried to fail the boss the same way I see people doing it. It seems most people are just playing too aggressive and trying to get a 2nd or even 3rd hit in while the boss's i-frames are still going. A 2nd hit is pretty reasonable, but don't bother for 3. Also, your best bet is to wait for the boss to stop making any noises after getting hit before attempting another hit.
If you can't even land the first hit without going through him, I don't know what to tell you. I can't even do that on purpose.

That fight was only remotely difficult for me when I'm in my super form. When not super you can get guaranteed hits with a single tap spindash as soon as silver sonic starts spindashing from the center. Because of your super acceleration you can't get the same speed, so I had to resort to timing going into a roll to land hits.
Still not a hard boss overall. I figured it out after about a minute or two on my first attempt.

Play with a wired controller. It's a night and day experience.
Also put your TV into game mode if it has one. Some TVs also have an input specifically designed for game consoles that has lower input lag, so make sure your console is plugged into that input if it has one.

I think that only works for the PS4 pro controller. I played using the Hori Fighting Commander which is a pure wired controller.

It's not that tough. I suck at videogames, and I beat it without too much difficulty in six hours or so. Hell, I haven't even finished an OG sonic game, even though I really like 2.

The only things that really pissed me off were the crushing deaths. Especially in the last zone.

This game is fairly easy as far as classic Sonic goes, but I would still suggest playing through Sonic 2, then 3 & Knuckles in order to experience the full Death Egg saga. Consider Sonic 1 and Sonic CD only if you really enjoyed playing 2 and 3&K. Sonic 1 is much less refined than 2, which is to be expected being the first in the series. And Sonic CD has very awkward level layouts due to how it handles the time travel mechanics and, unless you're playing the 2011 remaster, has very janky controls and physics.

Is there any use for clear data?
Whenever I start the game with my S&T clear save, it acts as if I selected No Save. Takes me back to Green Hill every time I select it, no matter how far I get.
