It's nostalgic, I'll give you that.
It honestly feels rather magical, like you're running through space with only a halfpipe to separate you, and it really nails that feeling of "Sonic", At least to me.

But compared to the other special stages, it's among the worst of them. you can only move left or right, you're constantly moving forward, bombs can show up without ANY warning if they're on a corner, and there's literally one part where all you can do to collect rings is jump constantly at the scattered mess flying at you and HOPE you can get enough to get the emerald.

Not to mention, it's been in so many goddamn games, including Sonic 4: Episode II

Halfpipe is terrible. How the fuck can you say it's the best when it's literally nothing but memorization? You can get hit by bombs or miss rings every single time it turns a corner without the chance to get in/out of the way.

They're only randomly generated if you lock a game that's not Sonic 2 or 3 onto Knuckles, and even then, they're not randomly generated in the way that makes them truly "random" and sometimes impossible. In fact, memorization is a big factor. The game has designated segments and groupings of spheres, they all have properties on which other groups they should and shouldn't go with, where on the map they should be, etc., and that's how the game builds the randomly generated Blue Spheres maps. Once you get the patterns down and which groupings usually go together and don't go together, yes, the game does become memorization based.

It's the 2nd worst special stage next to the Sonic 1 revolving marble puzzle, and only losers who love not seeing shit or having a piss easy challenge if it's like Heroes or Genesis 3D Blast like it.
It was only good with Saturn 3D Blast, and the new emerald special stage combines that with blue sphere, Sonic R racing controls, and CD's ufo flat courses.

Sonic special stages ought to be shorter to not detract from the main game for people who don't enjoy it, so hearing they took something long and repetitive like blue spheres sucks. Even S2's is more fun but still somewhat long and repetitive that can get tedious. Meanwhile Sonic 1's or Fixed CD are great and don't take that long.

No, you can physically see things coming and even take your time in blue spheres to plan things out.

Halfpipe is moving you forward at a set pace to a linear endpoint no matter what and along the way you HAVE to get x amount of rings, with both rings and bombs that take away rings being able to pop up before you can react to them because of the shitty draw distance and curves.
