It's the thirst for games with decent story telling. Sure it has it's flaws and is quirky and odd. But you know what? It doesn't fucking matter because the game and the story felt like it had vision and passion.

Too often the modern games come out with committee designed stories with shit just shoe horned in. The closer the games industry gets towards trying to be hollywood the shitter the stories will get.

Hence the resurgence in Indie games with a lick of passion and love on them. Hence the sudden popularity of games with no story or "make your own" aka PUBG etc.
