Did you know that playing as Sonic and Tails, that if you double jump and hold up you can make tails fly sonic?!?

Just found out fucking around in Lava Reef. Figured this feature would exist if second player was using tails, but no idea you can control tails manually.

I never noticed it because you don't typically press up for any reason, but I triggered it by accident and had Tails grip Sonic for half a second and then realised how to do it.

You can do it with the shields on too, and I think it isn'y just double jump, it's double jump plus holding up - or maybe it's tripple jump because I sort of spam the button.

You can control tails while he is flying regardless of if Sonic ia gripped or not.

It was a thing in the Taxman remakes of 1 and 2 and in Sonic 3 Complete. Makes playing as Sonic & Tails slightly easier because Tails can just fly you places.
