Nope
>>
Yes.
>>
It's happening RIGHT NOW

"if you know enough to ask the question, then you know the answer."
>>

It doesn't matter, it won't measure up to the years of hype and waiting.
Also it'll be some bullshit VR exclusive with lootboxes
>>
Ten year anniversary of the Orange Box in 3 weeks
If nothing gets announced then I'll have officially lost my last remaining sliver of hope
>>
I think something with Gordon Freeman could happen. But I don't think it'd be any kind of Half-Life 3 you'd expect and I'd be surprised if it was even being developed right now.
>>
>>387680980

At this point they can't. Maybe in another 10 years they can reboot the series but HL3 is an impossibility. Nothing they could possibly release would be worth the wait.
>>
It will and I'm still waiting, patiently.
>>
I don't want a masterpiece. I want an HL game at the quality level of Portal 2.

If all goes well, I'll live for another 1 or 2 decades. Sequels / reboots of worse IPs have been made.

Doubtful. If steam didn't exist Valve probably wouldnt exist.

Why would anyone want it at this point?

When did you give up on Half Life 3? Not just stopped caring about it, but knowing that it will truly never, ever happen?

For me, probably the ten year anniversary of HL2. Episode 2 is turning ten on October 10th of this year, and with that I'll probably resign to the notion that Valve is indeed not a developer anymore, and would rather rake in money with hats and other people's work than by doing anything themselves.

I miss old Valve. I miss old vidya. I'm just.... too old for this hobby now I guess.
>>
>>387681912

All I want is Gabe to finally fucking come out and give us some fucking closure. None of this "Tee hee we might release it sometime in the future. I'll never tell." If they released it on steam tomorrow even if it was an amazing game I'd still be pissed. Nothing they can release and certainly nothing in the scope of Valve would be good enough to justify all the time and cock teasing Valve has done with this series.
>>
It's a known fact this game has been in development hell for the past decade. It's coming out eventually.

Possibly when hats and skins stop making the fat-man money.

For me it was the departure of laidilaw that nailed it but I lost faith after seeing the full focus on Steam 6-8 years down the line and the lack of care to the consumer.
A lot of people might be awakened after Architects announcement.

I can't. Not ever. I've spent the last decade hoping. If I give up now, I will lose the last shred of hope that I have for anything, and will be unable to hope again.

I will die an old man still hoping for a HL3.

are you retarded? that's exactly opposite what Gaben said in HL2 interview, they have unlimited resources and time, until they can make something ground breaking and innovative they won't bother releasing a half assed product.

When it became appearent they weren't waiting on something "revolutionary" like VR or motion controls to release it so that it could be a groundbreaking game again. They simply have no excuse to not have released it by now except that they don't want to do it anymore and have scrapped it. Valve don't make games anymore.
>>
in 2021
>>
Valve isn't the same Valve from a decade ago. They're a shell of their former self. They just care about rolling in the dough from Steam, DOTA esports, and TF2 hats. The writers for Half-Life 2 (and even some writers for Portal) aren't at Valve anymore. Once you realize that it's easier to cope with the fact that Half-Life 3 likely won't ever exist.
>>

>>

Protip it never will
>>
>>387680980
It will. HL 2 took 6 years to make. So HL3 will probably be released after 12 years or so.

There has to be a good reason for it to get made aside from fans demanding it.

Some kind of revolutionary technology developed to blow people's minds, and that takes a lot of time and money.

It's like Cameron's Avatar - people went to see it because of the "revolutionary" technology.

The sequels are only getting made now because Cameron wanted to fuck around in his submarine AND because there was no cool technology available he could use to draw people to cinemas again and make billions.

>Some kind of revolutionary technology developed to blow people's minds, and that takes a lot of time and money.
HL3 is Valve's make or break Linux exclusive title that they'll launch after Windows 10 S is released, or possibly sooner if Linux manages to cross the threshold of users where it will make sense as a tipping point.
It may not cross many users minds, but the thought of a AAA game using the latest and greatest graphics API (Vulkan) running full speed native on a completely free stack (Valve is investing heavily in the Mesa RadV driver) will blow a lot of developers minds.
Basically HL3 will either be a triumphant signal to PC developers that its time to take Linux seriously, or a desperate signal to them that there is still a lifeboat and that PC gaming doesn't have to end.
>>
>>387689951

Give me a single exemplo of the game utilizing memes (and not coming up with its own, which is entirely different)

People who played HL2 for the first time after ~2009 are just memeing when they say its a masterpiece. Nobody REALLY cares if HL3 gets made.
>>
>>387681790
>>387684436
Don't get me wrong, I loved Portal 2 but wouldn't necessarily call it a masterpiece (dunno sounds kinda unachievable...) - that's not the point though. The point is, that they were able to make Portal 2 and make it good and as such I believe they can make a new (good) HL.
>>
it's bad business if they ever release it. There is literally no way it'll ever live up to the hype. Better to let it die.
>>
>>387680980
Why would the 3 be in the center of the logo?
>>
It's taking so long to develop because Valve made the mistake of treating Half Life not like a video game, but as a tech demo for whatever bullshit fad they can push as "revolutionary." Also, I think they are having difficulties putting a cash shop into what should be a single-player game.
>>
>>387680980
Yes, Valve will finally cave in, realize they need to release whatever and outsource the project to Gearbox. It's going to be so badass.
>>
>>387686059
I am not certain about it, but I think he wrote that they have three games under development. One of them is Artifact, the second one will propably be L4D3 and I wouldn't be suprised if the last one is another VR tech demo.

One of their three 'full' VR games is set in the Half-Life universe. There have been constant leaks of a 'HLVR' featuring things like 'grabbitygloves' (gravity-gun gloves). There were ~2015 leaks of 'HL3' with references to open-world RPG features (day/night cycle, neutral and questgiver NPC types).

It may not be 'Half-Life 3', but there WILL be a new 'Half-Life' game soon (releasing 2018, at the latest). It very well could be HL3.
