To be fair Dota 2 has been fucking itself over with its "NEW META" bullshit patches throwing balance out the window in favor of FOTM metagame league of legends style.

The game is not dead. But it's a shithole because it has all those MOBA retards from dota/league all in diamond and lower.

If you're like 6k+ in dota or diamond+ in league and you weren't lucky enough to play the placements 9-1 or 10-0 for the first time, you can straight up delete the game because it's literally garbage at any rank below diamond (inclusive).

10-0 puts you into diamond5 and you'd have to struggle a bit to get to the master where people at least have some basic understanding of the game and whatnot.
Master is where the game starts. It's where people understand what camps are for, what roles should be doing (especially tanks), etc.
One would think all you need is to not be complete dumbhead to understand those things, but in reality this is just how it is.

For the reference, I'm a lower GM player (120 peak, usually around 150-170). And I'm 6.4k in dota2 and nobody in league, if that matters.

No, because there are more points on a scale then "community growing" and "community dying", like it's either or.

It's not and it's also not the reason it's dying.
The real reason is that for people who have played competitive FPS for years before overwatch, which is 70% of the players in masters and above, there's no game.
Every match at master you gamble the following things: the top500 player in your team "maining" a better hero/role than the top500 player in the other team; your team having a top500 player on their decayed master/gm smurf; your team having fewer support players; teams being balanced in general (same amounts of gm and top500 players in both)
Add to that the fact that there could be a "several years" difference between a master player and a regular top500 player, and the fact that this entire shitfest happens in every single region but the pool of players is so low you literally start recognizing everyone you play with.

And there you have it. A game with no "endgame" ladder. There's nothing happening at masters and higher. The game ends in diamond.

And with all that, blizzard are trying to push the pro scene, which is supposed to emphasize the said non-existing "endgame". They just bury their own game.
