Now that is has been a couple of months what score would you give Zelda overall

I honestly would give it a 6/10. The shrines had some cool puzzles but the combat was repetitive and the open world empty.
>>
9/10. The only way the game could've been better is if it had more traditional dungeons.
>>
you had options for combat, you just chose not to use them
>>
>>387612003
>empty open world

This meme. I have over 100 hours and still haven't bothered to finish the main quest yet.

9/10 - because weapon durably
>>
>>387612158
I love the game but a lot of the more creative combat options are impractical. It usually is more effective to go really traditional especially against strong enemies.
>>
>>387612158
>Throw cucco at enemy and they swarm him
>Bait bokoblin with apple and other novelty attacks

You do that only a couple times till it's repetitive. Also artificial difficulty added by having weapons break was a slog to get through
>>
>>387612095
I would give it 10/10 as is but would prefer if it had big dungeons integrated into the world.
>>
My only major complaint about the combat was getting rid of the sword's "swinging while moving" feature that was in a few past games (or at least TP, can't remember the rest). For a game that loves to show off its grass it really is a pain to have to stop just to cut it.
>>
>>387612553
A 10/10 means it's perfect. Saying a game would be better if it had other things doesn't imply that.
>>
>>387612158
This.

Honestly, Combat would've been GOAT if weapons lasted twice as long but were twice as rare and more unique. You end up using like 5 of the same and breaking constantly.

I know it's kind of the point, but you sometimes have to end up using 3 weapons for one enemy, or having you inventory full of the same weapon.
>>
>>387612003
It's a pretty clear 9.5/10 to me.

No 10/10 means it meets my scoring criteria. Since I don't expect perfection 10/10 is still less than perfect.

This.
It took me 40 hours before I got to Kakariko Village because I would keep getting distracted by something else. The best part about BotW that sets it apart from other open world games is traversal of the world itself is a puzzle and actually fun with climbing/paragliding instead of just mindlessly walking from point A to point B.

I'd still give it a 9/10 because I was hoping for some cave systems, optional items in the overworld like in ALttP and more dungeons like Hyrule Castle.
>>
>>387612003
it was fun to pretend for a while but it's honestly no better than 7/10 AT MOST

The game gets better if you think of weapons having limited "Ammo" and having to conserve it.

There are optional items in the overworld. The Zora Helm for one, and plenty of weapons of you count them. There is also a whole set of barbarian armor to find.

Honestly, if you're a completionist, you WILL rate this game lower. Not only is it painfuk to keep track of your inventory, but you'll also have to take pictures of the Blights and lower-leveled Lynels due to the weird point scaling. Missed out on that Mighty Lynel Spear? Hope you don't mind forking over thousands of Rupees for the photo for your Compendium. Same thing for the Blights, except those cost 500 Rupees each. And don't get me started on the Korok Seeds.
But other than that, if you don't worry about the limited weapons and do whatever the fuck you want, it's a really fun game. 8/10 in terms of 100%, 9/10 otherwise. Wish the puzzles were a bit more difficult. Fuck Beginning Trials Floor 10 on Master Mode
>>
>>387613315
>i'm a retard who actually believe that weapon breaking is terrible

There's no easier litmus test to see if a poster never played the game.
>>
>>387612003
It's a solid 9/10. Everyone's already hear the shit you've said so you don't need to act like you'e dropping truth bombs on everyone.
>>
I'm probably the only person who didn't mind weapon durability. I likes how it made you try new things and think about how to preserve good weapons for later. If there was no durability, I probably wouldn't have ended up giving spears a chance. I grew to like them.

>>387613361
I'm more referring to stuff like a Hook Shot and more traditional items, one of the biggest complaints with the transition to 3D is that the item gating got a lot more strict. I think it would have been cool for the player to come across a dungeon in the wild, go through it and be rewarded with an item that wouldn't be necessary but would compliment exploration/movement. Maybe something like the Pegasus Boots.
>>
Meh it's like a solid 9.5/10, was okay I guess.

>>
>>387613690
This game has runes instead of items. It would have been better if you could find optional runes.
>>
>>387613780
It really is crazy how BoTW was as big of a BTFOing as Bloodborne.
>>
>>387613875
Well that's just semantics but you get what I'm saying. I like the idea of getting all the essential items at the start since it removes item gating entirely but there not being any other optional runes kind of puts in a dent in traditional Zelda progress that I really liked.
>>
>>387612517
It's made that way so you can go into a tough area and adapt to it, but at the same time you won't become overpowered from it for the rest of the game.

You people are all mongoloids. No wonder Skyrim was designed the way it was.

I can't even accurately rate it because it would be arbitrary and I couldn't even finish it anyway.
Ultimately the poor combat and puzzles is what killed it. I could go on and on about various aspects like the sound design (not the score) and world design (MMO trash mobs, lack of platforming, boring traversal through a poorly textured low fantasyland, etc...) but if the Combat had been solid and/or the Puzzles fantastic, everything else would've been under a list of things to improve for a sequel, instead of part of what killed this entry.

the world map is great but there's not enough in it.
towns were decent.
copy pasted stables came off as real lazy.
900 korok seeds and mini dungeon shrines are terrible content.

only 4 dungeons and they were too short and disconnected from the world. we could have at least got 8 dungeons.
mm feels more complete than botw and that was obviously rushed as a sequel to oot.
whats botw's excuse?

I really hope WWII's campaign is decent. What does that have to do with BotW anyway, their designs are completely different.

Since we're posting nonsense; Call of Duty (2003) fantastically depicts warfare and the calamity that came with it, BotW does not. German Panzers are a better antagonist than Calamity Ganon.

>>
I gotta beat the game already. It's getting repetitive as fuck since it's another open world game with shit combat, and having it unbeaten prevents me from playing anything else.
>>
>>387614486
Oh I did too, for about 10 hours. Unfortunately it just never seemed to pick up. The combat isn't anything special, and its bogged down by the fact that there is no challenge to meet. Combat and Enemies are almost entirely optional, and if you do accidentally wander near an enemy the game autosaves for you. I found flurry rush to be obnoxious. The last thing I want in my action combat is an unavoidable slow-down QTE prompt during every single encounter, as few as they are.
I can keep going, but the combat being dry and forgotten by the world's design was a big issue IMO.

Yes we played the same game. Different strokes, evidently. Nothing wrong with that.

Why would anyone has a problem with a video game being as open and free as that?
>>
>>387619357
Horizon doesn't. That game is all about combat with enormous robodino's, discovering what happened to the world, defending the kingdom of a hot king. Meanwhile you befriend all kind of different tribes, learn what they believe in and where they come from. It's also about forming an alliance with the enemy to find answers to all your questions. Meanwhile Zelda is defeating canon by shooting at the glowing bullseyes just to get cucked by Zelda in a cutscene. Wow.

>>
>>387620535
That's why I said normally, you can just ignore the main quest and do shrines for hours to get the master sword then do the main quest.

Point is if you grind for hours then do content intended for a much weaker character then you really can't complain about it being too easy.

Im playing it right now and I'd say its reception was pretty accurate. The only thing I'd say is lacking is the feeling of reward since you get all the important shit before leaving the great plateau.

I been playing open world games for near 20 years now and BOTW experience feels diferent to any other game. You can interact with the world like no other game as done it before. Of course, you will know this if you played the game out of the plateau instead of shitposting.

Actually you do; this is one of the complaints about the game - the endgame gets too easy because you get so overpowered. It hits you at some point when you realize you just took on a lynel and hinox at the same time and walked away without so much as a ruffled collar. I think the durability mechanic does a good job of disguising this since you're always at risk of loss of losing the weapon thats making you powerful.

I'm only at Hateno Village but I've put around 300 hours into the game. I'd give it a 10/10. I don't see any flaws in it so far other than the lack of a death counter and allowing you to teleport. The Tower radar does seem a bit broken though, so maybe there's that. But I can't fault it for flaws that I can control as a player.

I think the problem most people have is that you let the game hold your hand for you and you forgot how to play. For instance, you DO know it doesn't count if you died and you beat the game without restarting from the beginning right?

For people who like this type of game, its a 9/10 or 10/10.

For people who want a stronger story, less grind (e.g. cooking and weapon durability), more monster models, and better graphics...game is a 7/10 at best.

I found the first 20 hours really fun, but the grind started to get to me after that.

Completely agree. I couldn't even be bothered to do the last dungeon so I just went to Hyrule Castle to kill Ganon and be done with the game. At least Skyrim has mods to fix its myriad of broken problems. BotW just has shitty amiiboos that dump more pointless content.

speaking about treating the player with intelligence, what was the intended way to get the shrine in the great plateau that's in the mountain?

97 and GOTY.
>>
>>387624864
I did a lot of things in that time like research the ruins of the Temple of Time, tried to see if tree fruit grew anywhere else other than underneath that spot with the leaves, experimented with Magnesis and its effects on metal plates when they're touching water, and got the handle of the jumping physics. I also tried to find the most ideal route through the Plateau without cheating through the snowcapped area (using spicy food/torch/quilted tunic). It was epic. After around the 100th try to complete all four shrines in one go I finally did it.
>>
>>387620769
I mean you can complain, the game could have it's difficulty scale based on the player's progress but if your difficulty scaling is bad you end up with a giant mess like Oblivion or other modern rpgs where the dev assumes the player just wants to play on a single character
>>
>>387625545

>>
>>387624927

>>
>>387625385
>what was the intended way to get the shrine in the great plateau that's in the mountain?
There's multiple ways to get there and several things to overcome.

How do you survive the cold climate?
How do cross the frozen river?
How will you get up to the top of that mountain?

The whole area exists to let you understand how climate/weather/environment are interconnected and how the player has a multitude of different options available to fashion their own solutions and progress on their own terms.

My way of doing it was solving the old man's quest to get the warmer clothes but that's because I didn't understand the cooking system. The game doesn't explain it, you have to discover and learn all of that in your own.
>>
>>387625857
I thought all he did was stay in his cave and give you the paraglider but if you explore a little bit more you can find him hunting, and eventually find his house. You have to cook him a special food and he gives you the warm doublet. I can see how you could miss that though.
>>
>>387625857
This is exactly what I'm talking about here>>387623736 You guys don't know how to play video games. You can't miss the warm doublet. He will leave it in a chest in his house even if you somehow miss the both chances to get it.

tldr; GET GOOD SCRUBS!
>>
>>387625385
There's spicy peppers all over the entrance to the frozen area. I took that as a hint and cooked them up to get a cold defence. Only lasted a few minutes so I had to high-tail it. If you can get to highest peak, the old man will be there and he'll give you the warm clothes anyway for making it that far.
>>
Why was OoT's Castle Town even part of the Great Plateau? Is BOTW on another timeline branch?
>>
>>387626008
You can run up to Mount Hylia and get the warm doublet, or kill a bird on the way to the Stasis shrine and cook it with a pepper. The old man won't be able to tell it's not meat and will give you the doublet. I'm serious. There's also the option to light a torch on fire, but the way you did it is more badass. I wish I thought of that. Though I did start a fire on the raft and use it to keep me warm while I crossed through the icy river.
>>
I still give it a 9.5. Best game I played in longer than I can remember,
>>
It's been said time and time again: "It's okay when Nintendo does it".
>>
>>387626443
It's not OoT's Castle Town. The King even tells you it's where the Kingdom was founded, but later refers to a different foundation when he speaks of Ganon breaking out.

tl;dr The English version of BotW isn't canon. In the Japanese version it's clear that the game is connected to the timeline but I can't tell you how because then I'd spoil the overarching Zelda story that Nintendo will finish with Ballad of Champions.
>>
>>387626781
What's ok?
>>
>>387625385
>>387626403
I'm sure you know this by now, but if you don't, you can get that warm doublet by cooking a certain dish he asks for, when you talk to him in his shack. So yes, there are several ways to do it. Personally I climbed up on the other side of the shack, as there are ledges there for that specific purpose.
