This
They realized they can make bank just selling cosmetics, no need to make games anymore.
>>

>>
Most would say Steam and becoming the defacto ruler of the online game distribution racket is what went wrong
Hats and the Mannconomy was where shit actually went wrong. Totally, 150% indisputable.
It was the exact moment they realized they could subsist entirely on making microtransaction vehicles instead of actual games.
>>
Gabe is a businessman, not a game developer.
>>
>>387603551

Not sure where it started but it was too far gone by the time they release dota 2. Sadly because of valve and korean/chinese publishers jewish ways microtransactions are the future.
>>
>>387603551
>Gained an unlimited source of steady income due to a monopoly on distribution of PC games. ( I know there are alternatives but they're all shit)

>Company no longer needs to strive to create quality products due to failiure meaning nothing due to the unlimited income

>Company can literally do nothing at all and still be massively successful

>Online Multiplayer games make way more money than single player games, also much longer shelf life.

Not at all hard to see.
>>
>>387603551
when they stopped being a 'VIDEOGAME company' and started being a 'videogame COMPANY'
>>
I'm comfortable with valve primarily running Steam and making fad games, I'm not a conspiracy theorist so just having a good did girl distribution source is great
>>
>>387603551
When they made the "E" too small
>>
I'm not sure that anything has gone wrong in recent years.
Valve has always been slow as shit in bringing things out, nothing really has changed there.

The only really new thing for them is that the sword of damocles that is Microsoft's ability to take their marketshare away almost over night has gone from being a hypothetical 'if' to more a matter of 'when' now that 10 S has moved from rumor to fact.
That has them dedicating a lot of internal resources to Linux development instead of things for Windows users.

Nowhere, GabeN is giving people exactly what they want: an overabundance of shitty games.
>>
>>387603551
the flat management structure doesn't let them finish any kind of project, they are always moving between meme projects like their own Linux distro or their own VR implementation that works on unity but not on their new engine
>>
>>387604306
>microsoft taking Steam's market
doubtful, they'll probably be as much relevant as Origin or uPlay
>>
>>387604246
Or more accurately, when they became Valve Corporation instead of Valve Software.
>>
>>387604559
>meme projects like their own Linux distro
LMAO, that's not a "meme project", that's a matter of survival for Valve. A time will come when Microshaft locks down W10 and allows software and games to be bought only through Windows store, working on Linux shit is the only way Valve can save themselves. Other distribution like GoG, Uplay and Origins will die overnight.

great way to make people go back to W7
>>

Yeah, go back to W7 that will no longer have any M$ support.
>>
>>387604571
Valve has maybe five years left max before the majority of Windows machines won't even be able to run Steam.
Most of Steam's growth comes from kids being given cheap laptops for school, and from Asia. Those are the exact markets Microsoft is targeting first with 10 S, a version of Windows that will be offered to OEMs for $0, but which is incapable of running any legacy Windows software from sources other than the Windows Store.

Its basically the exact same scheme Microsoft followed in forcing Internet Explorer even though it was clearly inferior to the competition except in that case they just gave IE access to faster APIs instead of locking the competition out completely.
That's actually another thing 10 S brings back, you can only use "Edge" (still IE Trident shit) as a browser, and you can only use Bing as the search engine.

Not even ChromeOS does that crap. If you want Firefox or Steam on it that's not that hard to do.
>>
>>387605004
and? what do you need support for? are you tech iliterate enough to get viruses, rasomwares and other shit?
>>
>>387604949
Windows 7's EOL is only a bit over 2 years away and its already no longer receiving proper support for the latest gpu or cpu hardware.

Plus Microsoft has the carrot of Xbox One games, which will almost certainly be used at some point to encourage gamers to lock Windows to the Store.
"This game only works in Store Restricted Mode to prevent cheating"
>>
>>387605119
>Its basically the exact same scheme Microsoft followed in forcing Internet Explorer
yet I still don't use explorer and won't use MS store (even removed it from win10)
sorry but only cucks will budge and give away their freedoms

You're right, if steam never happened and some other company had the monopoly Valve would actually be making video games. Half Life 3 would've been out years ago.
>>
>>387603551
With DOTA 2. It all started there (and maybe TF2)

another ""game""
>>
The update where Valve put microtransactions into TF2
>>
It never went wrong. People are just angry because their mediocre game series is not getting a mediocre ending.
>>
What will be the future of Valve when Gaben dies?
>>
>>387603597
Bingo, valve saw that microtransactions were far more profitable than making good games.
