It doesn't.

DR3 was better. DR3 was the series' pinnacle.

It never gets fun. Fuck off.

After the first Carlito boss the game opens up. Although technically it's open from nearly the beginning, you can ignore all the plot and wait out the game in a closet until the helicopter shows up.

Basically from the start.

There's a few hidden Uzis around the game, one is in the food court on the statue of a chef, the other is in the fountain in the outdoor area that's not the center of the map, and there's also one on a blue ledge right in the area were the safe room exit is, you have to jump off a nearby staircase to reach it. There's also a katana on a ledge near the juice bar in the same starting area. Make sure to do the clown fight and get the mini chainsaws, also be sure to do that Carlito sniper fight quickly or else you will get a very strict timer for the follow story mode mission.

Also when rescuing the survivors be sure to give them the "over there" command instead of having them follow you. They are nearly unsavable in hordes of zombies if you have them just walk behind you and they do a terrible job of following you even without zombies. Just tell them to run across a section and then kill anything that grabs them, otherwise shit's going to be a nightmare.

the game is good, but overrated. Some of the boss fights are trash, you can feel exceedingly rushed at times, and the overtime mode is mostly unfun.

>>387594385
>that DSP playthrough were he kept bitching about the game and then his chat told him how to get the mini chainsaw plus 3 magazines

Shit was so fucking lame, he barely made it through the game as is.

This would certainly help. I accidentally killed one survivor because she decided to run in front of me while I was hammering a zombie and her head instantly exploded.

Pretty sure I did the same with the dumb-bell at one point, outside of that survivors can take a ton of punishment. Also giving them weapons might be a good idea, but I haven't tried that much.

Isn't this from a review from xbox magazine in the mid 2000s? Or did the devs actually say this as a selling point?

Just bought this game on Steam.

How strict is the timer? And is it possible to fuck up and have the game be unbeatable in any way?
>>
>>387595410
>How strict is the timer?

Pretty strict, don't expect to get all of the side shit done in your first play through. That and a lot of events happen without Otis telling you about them.

>And is it possible to fuck up and have the game be unbeatable in any way?

If you don't do the Carlito sniper boss fight quickly then the next mission will have a really stupidly short timer, which will make it a complete pain. Beyond that the story missions are all easy to complete with some side stuff done here and there.

Still, I'd rotate saves. That fucking mission to get Brad medicine can be nearly unbeatable if you do the Carlito sniper fight too late.

It's very strict if you want to save all the survivors. Otherwise it's not that big of a deal. It's possible to fuck up massively, but in my case it was my fault.

>save every survivor
>have time left over before chopper arrives
>mistakenly save in the wrong place

I wanted to die. Hours of hard work down the drain.

>>387595676
>>387595326
You get a bad ending if you miss the plot.
>>
>>387595267
>Also giving them weapons might be a good idea, but I haven't tried that much.
Shotguns is usually my best choice, since they'll use them to clear space and free you from grapples and I find they don't do too much damage to each other. They get unlimited ammo, too, so you can use every shot but one and then offload the gun to a survivor.
If you hit the gun store as soon as possible on the first day you can clean t out once before the psycho spawns
>>
It's a game designed for you to lose and learn for a good long while before you "beat" it. Character leveling is very important and so it learning the layout of the mall and what's going to happen. Your first playthroughs should be frantic and your last one should leave you standing around waiting for those timers to finish. If you don't want that experience, you fucked up. Dead Rising is at its core a game about beating the clock, not killing zombies. If you have a little patience, just goof around and accept your losses because you won't get a good ending for a long while. The fun is always there if you don't find a way to break the combat and plow through everything.

What happens if you fail the case and then make it to the helicopter bad? Is it just the same shit?

Also Brad's death hurt me more. No one seems to care that he dies, but his shit felt the most emotional to me.

DR1 is such a classic Capcom game in the way that it creates challenging and unique gameplay from strong limitations
It uses open world mechanics in one of the most unique ways of any open world game
It gives you all the freedom you could want but then forces you to plan and make decisions
Its like a race where there is not simply one track but you can take any route you want to the finish line and all have their pros and cons
I love DR1 because of how much it messes with all the people who can't tolerate having pressure placed upon them yet are also habitual perfectionists
More so than almost any other game It's like it was made specifically to mess with the stereotypical loser who plays video games to feel powerful and in control
And the way that it uses the horror genre and its tropes which fit this purpose perfectly is just ingenious and creative
This was a game that fully showed just how well Capcom understood the horror genre along with GnG, RE, and DMC
4 completely different types of games yet all with a very obvious horror motif and somehow they all worked so well
Its too bad what has happened to this series recently
DR1 really was a perfect game and I think the series still has a lot of potential
>>
>>387596095
The biggest issue I have with the game in the early stages is how painfully slowly Frank moves. And I guess the camera's unreliability too. I have no idea what that fucker Kent wants from me.

>Kent

Well first he wants you to take a picture of him taking a picture. Then he wants you to snap of photo of him doing his signature move.

Then he wants you to snag a good Erotica photo (Which you can get from Jessie at a certain point in the story).

Or you can just give up and leave the photography to the pros.
>>
Should I pick up this game on Steam for $7?
>>
Just did a 1 > 50 perfect playthrough of the game a couple of weeks ago.

An absolute classic and way ahead of its time as far as I'm concerned. The attention to detail doesn't get enough praise and it truly is one of a kind when it comes to game.

Still, the survivor AI is legendarily bad and the only real blemish on the game.

Fun fact: Frank's odd running animation comes from a supposed sprain he got jumping out of the helicopter in the beginning. The plot point was sort of cut from the game, but the animations were not.
>>
>>387598162
Yes absolutely
>>
>>387598045
>Then he wants you to snap of photo of him doing his signature move.
I got up to that but nothing I do will make him progress any further. There was a hint about getting over 700 points, after which I proceeded to get over 5000 points with a shot of his pose, but still nothing.
>>
>>387597326
It depends but after Barnaby dies you could infer she's infected and if you just ignore story entirely the case is never cracked while everyone survives with outbreaks occurring every where else.
>>
>>387597539
>>387598045

I think Kent can become bugged the first time you meet him. I did exactly as he told me to and it took forever to get it to register. It took so long it caused me to almost fail some of the quests.
>>
>>387597539
Just read it yo, he's literally there as a tutorial on how to take pictures. You just need to get a close enough picture of his pose so you can secure enough points to pass it.

I never did get the erotic photo though, never really understood how you were supposed to get it.

>>387598162
Yup.
>>
>>387598442
>>387598459

The game can be rather anal on timing of his special move. Pretty sure you get 700 by default when you get the right timing, but you really just gotta keep trying.
>>
>>387594931
I'd watch what you say. He's covered wars, y'know.
>>
>>387598045
How the fuck you unlock the second fight?
The one we're you are in underpants and tied up
>>
>>387598740

Getting to fight him in your underwear is the easy part. Avoiding it is the difficult part.

In order to fight him tied up, you have to meet him in Paradise Plaza between 12:05-01:00 pm.

In order to avoid it, you have to be on the dot in paradise plaza between 12:00-12:05 PM.

So in short: Be 5 minutes late.

>If you don't do the Carlito sniper boss fight quickly then the next mission will have a really stupidly short timer

Oh man I'm at that part, I tried to do the sniper boss as fast as I could but now I have barely enough time to run to the grocery store, let alone get the stuff and run back. Felt pretty broken
>>
>>387599857
Yeah, that single section is honestly the most poorly made aspect of Dead Rising. There's 0 way a new player will know about this happening, and most players will do the side content before doing what's clearly the main mission.

I barely made it through it myself and hated how hard I had to rush, DR does have a few aspects of pretty terrible game design.
>>
>>387599582
Made once and didn't even know how
>>
>>387600863
Well I guess I'm just going to lose this run then. I don't think I'll make it even if I reload before the sniper

>Answer every single call from Otis
>Not a single interruption
>Didn't get the achievement because I technically missed out on potential calls by already being in an area Otis notifies you about

There are achievements that are extremely difficult or just plain tedious. This is however BULLSHIT of worldly proportions. I don't really care for the mall security outfit, but man was I kind of bootyblasted.
>>
>>387600989
You'd be shocked how little time you need, more so if you unlocked the shortcut by beating Adam the Clown.

I had my time be a small ass sliver of red and I still managed to make it there and back just in time, despite the game showing me being out of time.
>>
>>387601241

You can even snatch a skateboard from the sports shop near the shortcut.
>>
>>387601158
>this
>having to escort eight survivors
>having to escort eight FEMALE survivors
>killing over 50,000 zombies
>staying alive in infinity mode for FOURTEEN REAL HOURS

Love the game, but holy shit the achievements are on another level of being ludicrously retarded.
>>
>>387601591
Most of them are "easy"

Except for the infinite mode
With the 360 >>387596931 this Anon get the pain
>>
>>387601797
They're not hard, no. But fucking lord they are tedious. It's why I emphasized having to do an additional survivor run and the infinity mode bullshit.
