multiclassing makes sense if you're not human in ADnD tabletop because you actually have hard limits on levels for racials. iirc an elf maxes of at lvl 17 for fighter, so it's not horrible to take elf multiclassed since that let's your character keep adventuring for much longer to fighter 17, MU 18 limits.

in the videogames i don't think they implemented those levelling rules, so a multiclassed character will just be weaker than a pure classed for ever and ever.

what i mean is that the Xp spread on offer usually means you can have a lvl 20 mage or lvl 18 fighter. or a lvl 12 ftr / lvl 14 mage multiclass, resulting in an overall weaker character.

if the level restrictions were still in dnd games, multiclassing would makes sense for other than powergaming derp, because your elf that's gonna LIVE for 600 years before getting 'old age' will have more to learn over that time because of slower levelling to their max levels
