No
Only neohipsters like Saturn games. They were literally inferior to PS1 and N64 in every way. Besides at that time, the good Sega games were in the arcades not in that console

Also that console is a clusterfuck hardware-wise
>>
>>387568439
Why do games like this exist? If you had money to but this shit, why not just buy an actual porno? Now a days, it's even worse because you can just get porn for free

>They were literally inferior to PS1 and N64 in every way.
What a retarded post.
Saturn hardware was way better at rendering and displaying 2D graphics far closer to arcade quality than either PS1 and Nintendo, with the sole exception being Symphony of the Night, which is the exception that proves the rule: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PxGM1np2hU
Literally every other 2D game is better on Saturn than PS1

It has plenty of good games mostly 2D and arcade ports though, the original 3D games (for the most part) didn't quite stack up to what the ps1 and N64 could do though

>Gundam Blue Destiny games
>NiGHTS
>Psychic Killer Taromaru (burn a copy, you're never getting an original disc of this)

and some other shit of note is
>Hyper Duel (burn a copy, Saturn version has an exclusive arrange mode that's better than the original)
>Galactic Attack (you can play it in MAME, but IIRC some shit still isn't right, like there's one boss attack that isn't visible)
>Burning Rangers (it's not amazing, but it's fun and the graphics are fairly impressive, it's short as hell)
>the original Wipeout (it's 20fps, but has way better collisions and handling than on PS1, along with a handful of different songs)
>Sonic R (game's a bit naff, but the graphics are quite impressive for '97, and I think it's still pretty fun despite being slippery as all fucking hell)

there's other shit that's worth playing that I'm missing
post too long

>>387568846
PD is a more stylish game by far.
The original is definitely not better than SF64, but Zwei might be a good contender.

>>387568607
you're such a faggot lol

>>387568796
Saturn has like three advantages, period:
>background hardware (on the PS1, you have to do do that shit manually with polygons, although the PS1's sky-high fillrate makes it a relative non issue to cover the screen with 32x32 polygon tiles, the real issue is that you burn through VRAM faster)
>more VRAM (1.5MB vs 1MB on PS1 -- but the Saturn's 512k splits between backgrounds, sprites, and the framebuffer suck, PS1 uses a unified model so none of the video memory goes wasted)
>cartridge RAM expansion

>>387569024
been saying this for years
this shit hurt Sega more than anything else, the early launch and Sony's immediate response

>Why do games like this exist?
The 90's were a time of experimentation and rapid technical advancement. We had
>ceedee roms
>mult-i-media
>FMV
>interactivity
>three deeeeeeeee
Pile all that into a single package and a 90's nerd would have jizzed his pants just reading the back of the box. Of course these games weren't fun, but you had to have been there to really understand. A lot of stuff we bitch about for not being good enough today wielded massive gravitas for just being there.
>>
>>387568361
I can understand that some people have different opinions on games available on Saturn but saying that it has "no games" is a just lie.
I have around 30 games for both Saturn and Dreamcast, similar amount to any other console I own.
Here are some games I recommend:
-Princess Crown
-Panzer Dragoon Series
-Nights into Dreams, Christmas Nights
-Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoners 1 and 2 (Soul Hackers)
-Shutokou Batlle 97
-Dead or Alive
-King Of Fighters 98
-Any Capcom fighting game on Saturn
-Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighters Megamix
-Marica
-Sakura Taisen 1 and 2
-Dragon Force
-Astal
-Burning Rangers
-Any good PC-98 or PC-Engine game remade for Saturn
>>
>>387568715
Those were usually arcade ports.
And just like you had some arcade title like House of the Dead with a story you could also play a Mahjong game with a story of being a Mahjong Princess and undressing other girls so they could join you in defeating Satan.
>>
>>387573657
Saga is a very different game but it's a really great and varied RPG, only real downside was that the story was short and that the dungeon before final fight could have been better.
Also as for me it could have had better final boss fight song, it just doesn't compare for what they produced for PD1 and 2.
>>
>>387574571
The problem is that Saturn got left in the dust by N64 and most definitely by PS1. On top of being left in the dust sales wise the competitors also had much better games and much more iconic classics to boot.

I had all three consoles and I even liked all 3 of them but it is clear at least if you were an American that Saturn just didn't have the same support of the other two so it ended up being a fairly distant third place. Basically it is easier to just blame Sega since they are the biggest reason Saturn failed anyways. Saturn was essentially the Wii U of the time period, N64 was a better Xbone and PS1 was well...you know.
>>
>>387575557
Good thing I'm not American then, in my country N64 failed pretty hard, Saturn did pretty well and Sony won.
Saturn died early and half of it's library was ported to PS1 while the rest of arcade ports were ported later only on PS1 since it was a newer console.
But nowadays you are not limited by region lock and pretty much all of those 3 consoles have great games to play, but nothing compares to the ass loads of games that PS1 and PS2 got.
>>
>>387569024
It's astounding how Sega had such a huge market share in the west with the Mega Drive and they managed to fuck it all up.

N64 was the much better console no contest. I replied to the thread earlier saying how my favorite game for the Saturn was Guardian Heroes but it is just a sad fact that the Saturn pretty much bombed everywhere else besides Japan where it sold best. Again it is just a fact that Sega was dropping the ball hard after the Genesis. This is a company that beat Nintendo before Sony and even Microsoft started spanking them. I hate to say it but considering what I read it really is for the best that Sega stopped making consoles with the incompetence they had then. It would have really helped a lot for them if they also didn't make a difficult to develop for console. Pissing off retailers wasn't a smart move either.

Just so much incompetence with them that reading about it here and watching videos so many years later really put things in perspective for me. As incompetent as /v/ likes to say Microsoft and Nintendo are they are still lightyears better than 90s Sega.

And honestly I would have loved to have seen Saturn actually compete. It just was never meant to be.

There's a sonic Xtreme ROM available,
Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2, and Saga.
Saga in particular is really impressive for a 1997 RPG and could have easily competed with FF7 if Saturn was more successful in America.
Saturn Bomberman is the best bomberman game hands down.
SCUD is interesting,
Magic knight Rayerth is an interesting action RPG,
Blazing Dragons is an awesome point and click game, but also available on PS1.
There's more I can't think of now, but it's totally worth it to get your hands on a saturn and hardmod it. It's not that difficult, I had a lot of fun doing it, and I've since had a lot of fun with its games. If you're like me, you were too poor to get a Saturn but always wanted one, then you should definitely get one.

It's not a matter of a shit or good PC, sure you can post the most popular PS2 game I already played, but any obscure game I haven't played on my PS2 to check them out? Bugged as hell or sometimes unplayable.
Even some more popular games like Yakuza have many graphical problems that instead of playing the game you literally sit and tweak the setting to make it look good.
Don't even get me on the sound problems in some games.

Wrong.

PS1 was quite capable of handling 2d games. The only way for SegaSaturn to beat PS1 is to add ram to the system 1, 2 then 4 meg ram to be precise.
>>
every 5th gen thread turns into a hardware discussion, why?
>>
>>387578204
It was, but still the PS1 versions were worse, often they had less frames for sprites and frame rate problems at the same time and it was compared to default Sega Saturn because every game runs without the additional RAM, there are only very few games that actually support 4mb RAM like KoF 97 if I remember correct but because of it those ports are arcade perfect when PS1 was far from that.

Arguably better than the PS1 in terms of quantity of good games
>>
>>387578417
It was an era where the hardware dictated the games instead of being just "same shit but with less resolution and shadow quality" as it is now.
Just to put things in perspective, VDP2 could pull off mode7 like planes on the saturn, and did it cost free, specially if compared to drawing the whole thing with actual triangles, so many games used this mode 7 plane to deliver a great performance... as long the game could have flat terrain.

>SEGA SATURN HAZ NO GAEMS XD
>Wii U has an amazing library of games :^)
Real talk. I seriously hope no one thinks this way.
I know you're out there, motherfucker.
>>
Did anyone play dragon force 2?
for some reason I just did not like it when compared to dragon force. Felt very unpolished when I played it
>>
>>387579542
SS had 1056 games released in it's life time
Wii U has 743 games released currently

What games someone prefer is just their opinion however but I hope Switch will get some more games then Wii U
>>
>>387579542
if i had to pick one i would go with the wii u because the saturn games are too expensive and modding seems like a pain in the ass
>>
>>387568803
>virtua cop
Fucking hell that was my shit
>>
>>387579847
Not true, you literally need a cartridge and can play the entire library or.... just emulate.
It's not like Saturn has cheap games in Japan or you could have bough some of the games for cheap for around 12 years.
>>
>>387580019
>you literally need a cartridge
that just makes the console region free
>>
>>387578869
CCE is a lot better than that awful launch port, as long you understand you have to keep the stick up to act like a wheel of sorts.
>>
>>387580056
No ,Action Replay 4M Plus makes the games region free.
You can make any SS cartridge to boot pirated copies of the game since 2 years ago and there is some guy working on a mod to load games from SD card.
>>
>>387569741

I like your choices. The main issue is the fucking pricetag of many of those.

If you know Japanese, you can save some cash and import them since they are way cheaper in Japan.

Doesn't really do me a lot of good anon
>>
>>387580543

NiGHTS is legit one of my favorite games that gen. Have fun.
>>
>>387580620
I've played that on Steam, I didn't beat it but it's neat and I'll go back to it
>>
>>387568607
>Only neohipsters like Saturn games.
I guess I've been a neohipster for over 20 years then.
>>
>>387568361
NiGHTS and the Devil Summoner games are easily some of my favorite games of all time
>>
>>387581351
Shame they never made a good port of Devil Summoner, PSP version had shitty MIDI music and surprisingly worse graphics.
At least it runs at 60 fps and has some more content and faster battles, shame they didn't remade it for 3DS before Soul Hackers.

>>387579846

So, in its life time then?

Fuck that game was amazing. The port to 360 felt off, but I can't exactly figure out why it did.
>>
Elevator Action Returns
Battle Garegga
Radiant Silvergun
House of the Dead
Sonic Jam
Psychic Killer
Assault Suit Leynos 2
SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
Virtual On
Sega Rally
Daytona USA
Dragon Force
Guardian Heroes
Princess Crown
Sexy Parodius
Galactic Attack
Dodonpachi
Saturn Bomberman
Saturn Bomberman Fight
Bomberman Wars
Sanik 3D Blast
Thunder Force V

No. No good games. :')
>>
Are Sonic Jam and 3D Blast on the Saturn the definitive way to play those games?
>>
>>387585853
Sonic Jam's a solid collection of the original trilogy if you don't already have it, but 3D Blast has a totally different soundtrack from the Genesis version. I personally like the Saturn version's music more, it's done by the same guy who composed Sonic R's soundtrack and has a similar feeling to that.

how is it not obvious he was joking

everyone knows the Saturn had a troubled selection of games in the US, did he offend you because it was your favorite console as a kid or something?
>>
>>387570860
This is the game the convinced me I'd love getting into more DRPGs.

It's also the game that made it very clear that most other DRPGs are complete trash.

You're goddamn right it did.
>>
Is sega Saturn worth getting in our 2017 year?
>>
>>387588495

Yes if you speak Japanese because the best game on it The one I posted, Sakura Taisen is NTSC-J only. And will never get a localization ;_;
>>
>>387588558
You know Japanese? How long did it take you to learn it?
>>
>>387588558
Yeah I know Japanese, also isn't Sakura taisen on PC?
>>
>>387588495
depends on what kinds of games you like and how much you're willing to spend on retro games
>>
>>387588407
>>387588558
It's better to play ST on Dreamcast since all the games from the series were released on it and support VGA with save import feature.
>>
>>387588594

Fuck no, I'm not that patient man. I had to use an old ass GameFAQS guide from a guy who does. I only know it to the extreme basic level (Greetings, exclamations, I recognize maybe 1/5 of the kana). I tried several times but I always asked myself "Why am I learning the language of a country that will ostracize me, and one that has no practical use outside of my weebshit?"
>>387588630
It is but those versions are so goddamn hard to find that you're better off emulating it. I recommend the PSP port that comes with Sakura Taisen 2.
>>387588675
Yeah, Dreamcast port is also good. I'd personally play 1/2 on PSP then 3/4 on Dreamcast, 5 is the one that got localized so play it on Wii or something.
>>

Mednafen is your best bet.
>>
>>387588696
>Why am I learning the language of a country that will ostracize me
I think this sometimes too, but I have so many fucking Japanese games I want to play that it'll kind of make it worth it. I'm autistic have no life and no friends so I have nothing to lose haha
>>
>>387588930
I'm not (that) autistic, I have friends and a life but tons of free time. Yeah, I could spend it learning to program and learning French/Japanese, but nah I just shitpost and listen to shoegaze.
>>
>>387588636
Just looked it up and almost all of the good Saturn games seems to be going for 80 dollars a piece. Not sure if that's worth it. May just end up emulating it instead.

>>387588696
PSP port would definitely be nice. I'll check it out.
>>
>>387568361
It has the best arcade ports, shoot em ups and fighting games of its era
>>
>>387589092
It's playing fine so far. The text renders weird sometimes but that doesn't matter because I don't speak moon anyway.
