In the first film James Franco was trying to genetically engineer a chimpanzee to become intelligent because he wanted to find a way to reverse alzheimers and generally help make humans smarter; turns out it was genetic, the chimp's child was intelligent, and somehow became contagious and made other lesser primates intelligent; then the bio-agent he made ended up evolving further and became fatal to the majority of human beings that were exposed to it. Humans were nearly wiped out in the resulting pandemic and those left were exposed to another strain of the same virus that made them revert to near feral levels, thus setting up the humans that can't talk but apes that can in the original Planet of the Apes film.

Long story short it's a horrible way for humanity to go and it sucks because this entire story and string of films were set up solely to doom humanity.

That's because for some fucking reason genres now represent character's experience, not player's experience. Its labeled as horror if its something character is scared of, even if there's nothing scarry in the game. Its called action of the character goes through a lot of exciting events even if there's no such thing in gameplay, its called adventure if the character has an adventure, etc...

I hope they don't put it in San Andreas again.
