There's a difference between complaining about graphics and complaining about poor performance. Pokemon games run abysmally considering how much money Gamefreak makes. Also a lot of Vita games run pretty poorly as well. Handhelds have never been good, Gameboy, Gamegear and GBA all ran like shit for the most part as well.
