The controls are real bad. I can control what I'm doing fairly well in 06 even if everything else fucking blows, but secret rings movement is just fundamentally awful. Autorun combined with no camera control and imprecise motion controls make for a shitshow of a game.
Also the part where you have to do dozens of missions and get kicked back to the menu over and over again after each one is the worst kind of filler.
It's not as broken as 06, but it's a chore to play and I derived no enjoyment from anything that wasn't a cutscene. At least 06 is entertainingly broken.

I agree that 06 is more entertaining in a "so bad it's good" way but Secret Rings is 100% more functional, finished and coherent. The cutscenes/plot are better (in their simplicity) too. OST is up in the air.

Nothing is as bad as people make them out to be, but the thing is that game experienced some nasty fuck ups over the course of its development, some that were even beyond control.
And the amount of hype that was hoisted on the game's shoulders didn't help either. If I'm sincere, the game wasn't that bad, but it didn't have a lot going for it as it was, and the last thing it need was the overhyping that caused it to collapse all over itself.

The camera angles during spring jumps show vastly more polish and the ring trails all allow you to perform a light dash through them; in the final version, most of the ring trails in the actual stage are not programmed to allow you to light dash through them.
