Should I start the Witcher series at 1, 2 or 3?

The games are pretty mediocre. The gameplay is never really that great in any of them and always unbelievably easy. The writing isn't up to snuff compared to the books, either. Your best bet is to read the books if you want a good story, and play a better game.

I started at 3. Unquestionably a 10/10 game you will play through over and over. The books and games have a shit ton of lore. Luckily there are articles that get unlocked when you meet people. Look up lore videos on the book series so ur not sitting on ur arse reading a book instead of gaming. At the start of 3 you are given an optional choose previous plot choices bit when you visit the Emperor at the start. Choose to spare people to get a fuller story. What I did was:

>Read the article on the person im talking to
>Look up summary of previous games
>Ask myself why I feel i should give a shit about the black haired girl
The girl has a past with the main character that ur going to want to look at a lore video about

Buy the game of the year addition of 3. You don't want to let retards talk you into buying a 20 dollar book that has about 3 bits of info on it. The white haired chick isn't your biological daughter.

Just start with 3.

Try to play W1 but if you think the combat is retarded after an hour then skip it. Witcher 2 with FCR mod is the pinnacle of the series. Skip Witcher 3 if you want. Although, I'd play through W3 for the Gwent alone.

I used the command to give myself every card and then happily challenged any of the quest-related Gwent players.
I didn't mind it once I didn't need to hunt for cards and get fucked because I didn't have anything good enough.

Witcher 1 is definitely hit or miss. Combat is a a timed clickfest that gets boring too fast, though I eventually started to like it. Chapter 2 felt too long because of the multiple sidequests and the learning curve (abilities, fighting, fetch quests, etc). Chapter 4 felt too short. Ending felt like they ran out of ideas so they threw in the "I do evil things because I'm actually a good guy" villain from JRPGs

Also no, the games share very little with the books. According to one guy I know, the games are fun and the books are also pretty fun despite not being 1:1 versions of the literature.

Literally false, and this is coming from a former W3 shill. Even when it was my literal favorite game of all time I never claimed it was 10/10, the combat isn't nearly good enough and there's too much reliance on witcher senses and quest markers. It's a solid 8/10, maybe 8.5/10. Excellent game with some flaws, nothing wrong with that.

Get some actual arguments, kid. Go play some other stuff and expand your horizons. The writing is top tier in W3, but there's still some SJW stuff thrown in. Soundtrack and Graphics are great, combat is mediocre. Witcher Senses and quest markers are lazy mechanics that are overused. 8/10 for sure. Just because not everyone thinks your favorite game is the best doesn't mean they're all wrong buddy
