DmC:DmC is simpler to play. The story is not great, the OST is wubstep so its subjective whether you like or not. Its has a complete story, and its DLC is somewhat better gameplay wise, but worse writing.

DMC4 runs like magic. DMC4SE runs not quite as good.
Both of these are much deeper, have more varied gameplay, better humour. But its very obviously half a game since half the game is backtracking.

Bottom line DmC:DmC is made to be played casually, but DMC4SE is generally superior if you invest time into it.

It's not arguable, DmCs gameplay is trash which brings the game down to not worth buying considering the appeal of the series is the combat. Plus you have to suffer through horrible bosses, and yeah, Bob is a bad boss people try to make him out to be good for some reason but he's just a puzzle so easy children could beat him, no skill involved, plus it has an ear raping soundtrack, and a story that is, to put it nicely, shit.

I saw the pic for DmC1 in the sale banner and got excited for a moment but it's not on Steam, I don't think the game was ever ported to PC, what a tease.

DmC can serve as a basic introduction. It will most likely overstay its welcome after a while.
DMC4 is the game with the deepest gameplay in the series. It will reward you more for time invested into it, if you try to go for stylish gameplay and look into the mechanics.

DmC is not a Devil May Cry game. It's an okay hack and slash and you'll probably have fun with it (no matter how much people whine), but it just doesn't have any of the depth for combos and gameplay styles the DMC series is known for.

As a newcomer you won't make a mistake which ever one you buy, but keep in mind that DmC is nowhere near the originals on a technical level, which is one of the series strongest points.

As someone that was new to the series, I found DmC to be a lot more fun than what it was memed to be by the fanbase. Yes, the combat in the game is more simpler to master than in the other mainline series, but it is still a blast to slash enemies in the air and rack up combos. I've noticed that DmC combat is more aerial based than the rest, which is pretty fun to juggle enemies in the air and mix and match combos.

idk both are fun in their own way. I just love DmC since it's more focused on air combat.

Just fucking get along and appreciate the good in games instead of acting like autists.

Well DMC is about experimentation and variety, which is what the style meter rewards you for. DmC has several enemies that can't be hurt with "wrong" attacks causing players to lower ther variety of attacks. That's not really in the spirit of the games.

The DMC series also has an incredibly high technical skill ceiling with many advanced techniques like jump canceling and frame perfect dodging and total lunacy like Exceed with Nero. DMC streamlines most of these mechanics, causing the game to lose much of its charm and identity.

It's not a bad game, but it just feels much weaker than other games in the series from a gameplay perspective.

In fairness, news of the game itself wasn't any better. The game was locked to 30fps on PS3/360, which was a step back compared to games like Bayonetta or even DMC4 back in 2008, and the combat controlled nowhere near as good as a result. There are games like Splatterhouse which still have fun combat at 30fps on 360 but for a DMC game not to run at 60fps is a sin. The game was meant to appeal to a "wider audience", which is a given that a game is going to suck since there will be a significant decrease in challenge and fun. The story they hyped up was horrible in every way possible despite people probably trying to backtrack saying "OH WELL IT WAS MEANT TO BE A SATIRE!". There was no lock on buttons which would have made combat smoother, just two dodge buttons.
