I can't really say he's wrong. There's a few sonic games I enjoy, but I don't think I can honestly call any of them good.

This. I always found it odd how most Sonic games got boring after their first or second levels. The games tend to focus on speed and timing at first but then quickly devolve into inane puzzle solving and slow-paced platforming.

Honestly Sonic was never that good. I wouldn't call the originals shit but they aren't especially great either.
