I could use it with no problem and so could most people but basically everyone switched to the smaller one when it came out because it was better ergonomically.

The only thing it was good for is it's size if you have larger hands, but otherwise it was an unmitigated train wreck that hasnt been seen since the Atari 5200 controller (IMO the worst one ever made).

I never really liked those xbox "bubble" type of YBXA buttons. I don't know how else to describe those. not big fan of the dpad either.

ABXY buttons are too hard, BW buttons are hard to reach if you're a handlet, and the dpad is atrocious.
The controller is the comfiest to hold though. Definitely better than GC, DC and Dualshock2

Unlike you I was old enough to actually own a duke controller when they first came out, and unless you have bear hands, no, you cant seamlessly use the white and black buttons. The s controller was an improvement in every way and showed that the duke controller was shit.

Unironically my favorite controller for Halo and I don't have huge hands. It has an awful D-Pad like all Xbox controllers though so it's shit for everything else.

xbox controller is so bad i had to get one of those xbox to ps2 adapter things so i can use my ps2 controller and i dont even like the dualshock 2!

It was okay for people with big hands but otherwise no. The type S controller was considerably better in general.

A revised Xbox controller, a USB adapter, and XBCD was the most patrician PC controller solution up until the 360 controller. It was especially perfect for emulators, since the the D-pad was a lot punchier, and served as the basis for the 360 controller, although the housing wasn't as snug where the domes were, which lead to the mushiness, and eventual Pringles fix
