Also only 1/5 of them are "new" in the base game, the rest are all behind a paywall. How can you justify a game that has 6 less characters than vanilla MVC3, hides the kings cut of new characters beyond a paywall, and has MUCH less new content.

Even counting returning characters from 2-D games and reused assets from Tatsunoko, MVC3 still had 19 BRAND NEW characters from the previous games. And then blew us away with 11 BRAND NEW characters in ultimate along with a fuckton of additional content like galactus mode, ptimized netcode, x-factor nerfs, theater mode, and Heralds mode.

Meanwhile this shit is only 5 new characters in the base game, little to no changes, reuses characters from UMVC3 lazily without any fucking effort (RE5 Chris in 2017, 2009 Spencer in 2017, DMC3 Dante in 2017)

What the actual fuck were they thinking? They are aware that the hype that crossover games like MvC and Smash get, especially pre-launch, is from people seeing all of the new and crazy characters from companies they love paired up and put into fighting games. People love that shit, they love being surprised by new characters. They want to see how they play, and function in a fighting game setting. Message boards literally explode every time a new fighter is revealed for Smash. It's what sells these games, especially outside of the hardcore fighting game community.

Did they completely miss the point? Did they forget that the characters are what sell these games? That people want to be excited by the prospect of new fighters, and trying them out is a big part of the reason they buy them?

There is no way casuals with latch on to this, them acting like people only care about "functions" is straight anti-hype. This shit is 100% going to flop.
