What's your favorite gen, /v/?

Gen 2 was my favorite experience as I played it as a kid on release and it improved on R/B/Y so much it was incredible.

Gen 4 probably had the biggest improvements on the previous generation and had the best metagame pre-platinum.

Gen 5 is probably my favorite as an adult. They went really hard on JRPG tropes and it was a fun experiment. Designs were solid and rivals actually felt like rivals.

Gen 1 is the one I remember the best, maps, towns, etc.

Newer gens have better individual designs, but older gens had a better general art style

In terms of games, 4

In terms of monster designs, my personal favorite comes from 6 but most of my favorites come from 1 and 7

Fuck everything about Gen V.

Gen 4. Platinum + Heart Gold cannot be beat. Not to mention those mystery dungeon games.

3,specifically Emerald because its Battle Frontier is just too good. Overall I do love each gen though. Also gotta say that I liked 7's totem pokemon more than gym leaders,1v2 battle against a powerful pokemon and a helper is just way more fun than just another trainer

Gen 4 added the best pokemon.

Gen 2 had the best game, partly because of how massive it was with two whole regions.

So the best games in the series are HG/SS for being the best of both worlds.

I like 3's designs best

Johto itself was already good enough on its own, certainly better than gen 3 or 5, and kanto was just extra good shit.

Ehh Johto ended too quickly (especially towards the end) and only few of its routes stood out, felt like they should have just put most of Kanto's stuff in Johto to feel complete.

HG/SS still didn't fix shit like distribution and levels for instance, but I commend it for being a better remake than FRLG.

I think it looks better in art than in the game, but the main thing I dislike compared to Crabrawler is the loss of all of that nice crab anatomy. Maybe the intent is that it's covered in fur but it isn't conveyed well and ends up looking like a gumdrop with legs.

Ice is good as an offensive type (ex: Weavile) but shit as a defensive type. Most ice types are slow because arctic animals are slow by nature. Ice can be good if more offensive pokemon were made.

Gen 1 holds a lot of nostalgia for me, but looking back at it, the gen 1 games weren't particularly great. Their balance is fucked to shit and they're buggy as hell.

I guess gen 2 would be my favourite. Most of the new Pokémon designs are too cutesy for my tastes, but they expanded on the gameplay in a lot of great ways.

I'm LE 90S KID LOL :D, so Gen 1 will always give me warm and fuzzy feelings. Doesn't stop it from being one of the worse gens objectively speaking though.

Gen 2 vastly improved on the foundation Gen 1 started, not to mention the Pokemon designs still felt fresh and exciting

Gen 4 is when I got back into Pokemon, but I feel Hoenn's Pokemon deisgns objectively struck a near perfect balance of still having aesthetically pleasing designs that pop while not hitting Digimon levels of trying too hard

Gen 1 but I'm obviously biased, haven't played for over a decade. I liked what I saw from X and Y designs (?) though, that one were they didn't try to hit some even number like 100.
