A better UI, or at least one with a small list of "essential" key combos for reaching important actions.

Dwarf Fort imitators will never get as far into dev as Toady so this is just speculation.

Mouse support, having to press alt+key or shift+= is fucking retarded and only good things can come from giving people the option to use a mouse to click on it instead of using key combos

Everything about DF is pretty fucking awesome, you just have to have a decent imagination as the whole thing is ASCII.

I would want the game to be modular so you could turn off or simplify systems that you just aren't interested in. There is so much in this game and it always feels like some annoying part of it that you can't ignore is just getting in the way of the bits you want to engage with.
