Amagami is widely considered to be one of the greatest VNs/Dating sims ever created. All the girls are god tier, tons of events, routes have variety/replay value since you can choose which individual event to visit, great art, great writing, etc. EOPs have been waiting for a translation for a very, very long time.

I was like you, I spend ages stuck on kanji and they kept me away from reading harder material. Heisig helps you recognise things and not be afraid of kanji anymore.
Now I'm not scared when I see kanji and even if I don't know the meaning of the word I can grasp the definition by knowing what each kanji means. Also if I don't know the kanji it's not intimidating as I can learn it it a minute now

So yeah doing heisig makes you not scared of kanji anymore and makes you able to recongise kanji. Don't bother with the second or third books. You just need to know the meanings

It really will other wise you might be better off remembering numbers. I woudn't say I'm fluent, but I can easily browse in japanese, play any game and read news and so-on.
One big advice I can give you, is to read things you enjoy, other wise you might give up. Try manga, LNs, VNs, Games that you like rather than difficulty and try something you know the plot to. For example I like pokemon so when I started I played pokemon in japanese and even though I didn't get everything I was still immersed and wasn't lost.

Also if you do do Heisig make a free account kanjikoohii, like I mentioned in the otehr pic otherwise you'll spend nearly double the time making up stories and it might be harder.
