I wouldn't recommend Pirate's Curse if you're looking for a challenge, it's piss easy provided you aren't total dogshit at platforming. Wayforward can do polish, they just can't do gameplay (not to mention how much the game suffers from linearity).

I think barely anybody has heard of Pharaoh Rebirth, even though it's a totally fine doujin metroidvania. It all comes down to if you want a cartoony western metroidvania or a Japanese doujin style one.
