Reminder that 2D action games should have small sprites. The bigger the sprite, the more zoomed in the action is, and the slower the gameplay.

Super Metroid disagrees.

SM is in fact slower than M, but it doesn't have as big an impact as it's more of an exploration game. SM would look fine in 16:9 too.

Mega Man 7 and 8 were a mistake

16:9 says fuck you

Uh not really

16:9 actually just makes everything look more smaller unless you have a 50 inch tv

belt scrollers were never good games, and they're typically pretty slow. River City Ransom feels much faster.
It depends on the game. Big sprites have the opposite effect in Contra, they make the games feel more frantic because there's less room between you and the enemies, and less room to dodge.

Completely wrong on both points, at least watch some footage of the game before talking.

Those games were always slow as molasses, and part of the reason why they died.

Who needs running when you have fast as fuck rolls and even faster jumps, also much faster attacks and way more enemies on sceen. River City Ransom is really slow and dull in comparison.
