but I probably won't touch this game until the multiplayer patch arrives, and even then, I'm a bit disappointed at how it's been described (1 master farmer file, 3 farmhands who are more subservient than Animal Crossing-style)

The game made progression way too easy and didn't provide any real money sinks.
These types of games have always been the same, you try to become more efficient so you can afford the better tools to be even more efficient.

SV made the mistake of having the progression so simple that you are already done after year one. Once you have the most relevant upgrades, your iridium sprinklers and the best tools, there is no reason to play anymore. There's nothing you could still improve with the profits you gain.

Bats saves you money for getting the frutis necessary for requests and to fill out the colleciton, but at a certain point you are rolling in so much dosh that you could buy an entire orchard. Also mushrooms gives you 3/4 o the ingredients for the life potion
