The Sims was a big part of my childhood. Played it a lot back then and bought every expansion pack up until The Sims 2 Seasons. I did buy The Sims 3 as well, but nothing else after. Very nostalgic, specially the Sims 1 music.

The reason is because you end up with shit like every time a Car 'disapears' it's , model goes away but it doesn't unload, and eventually every Radio and TV in the Town will get stuck on 24/7
and there are mods that fix those, it helps tremendously with the lag that can happen after playing a town for long enough
Also Stay the fuck away from The Nightlife and Island Paradise Expansions towns
Both those expansions have features which will Kill the games framerate and shit in the town if you use them for any of their features
In Fact, it is impossible to use any of the Features added in Island paradise because of How POOR that town Runs unless you are useing only that expansion and no others
You could remove that and nothing would change

Remember how cute Sims were when they sat around a fire and sang songs together? Or they they'd sing on Superstar when they didn't have enough creativity level? Or the way they interacted with the hamster and could even get diseases and die?

I usually stick to Sims 2+University and Nightlife without mods because those are the ones I had bought back in 2005, I bought Pets back in 2006 and borrowed Open for Business from my cousin, however with those two I felt it was way too easy to break the game leaving you to do nothing at all while waiting for their job to occur.

I prefer to design and decorate houses over playing with the Sims themselves.

Unlikely. Something on the level of Sims 1 maybe, but anything past that is ridiculously complicated because you need to implement so many different systems. Indies just don't have that kind of money to work several years as a team on this, let alone very few have the skill. I think you could've handed the driving concept behind sims 3 to any studio, and given the same time constraints, it would've come out about the same if not worse. Look at Oblivion, it had just a fraction of what TS3 had (NPCs in an open world that go about their daily lives, satisfying their needs when need be) and going by what the prince of lies says, they had to tone it down. Otherwise you ended up with towns rioting because an idiot beggar decided it made more sense to take an apple sitting in front of a guard instead of hoofing it back to his bedroll with a carrot by it. Stupid shit like that still ends up happening in that game. All things considered, I think 3 came out as well as it could've in the time taken to develop it.

For the same reason /v/ never talks about Sim City, the latest game killed the franchise. They just had to make a multithreaded Sims 3, instead they released a game that in its base form is inferior to all the previous installments.

Please, if you want to see a game that got gutted by pandering to the lowest denomination, look at SimCity 5. Sure the transition from Sims 4 from 3 might have stung, but SimCity 4 needed more features like roundabouts but instead Maxis reduced the amount of features to pre-Simcity 2000 levels where you can't even modify the terrain anymore, all because of some vague napkin outline Will Wright left them before leaving the company that said "SimCity 4 is too complex for normies, make it like Societies instead". The problem with Sims 3 is that the code is so fucked up that no matter what you do with whichever NASA supercomputer you have at your disposal, the game eventually runs like shit. The game ran great for me with the MC-command center mods, but the longer you spend in a saved game, the more retardation piles up until it eventually becomes a crashing slideshow. EA knew this from the very beginning but never did anything about it. It's unfortunately just the nature of the game, which is why I can't say Sims 3 is the best of the series.

I have nearly a year on the same neighborhood and saves. Don't run a world with bad routing or get a fixed version, use Nraas stuff, enable 4gb memory usage, clear cache and clean save now and then, limit neighborhood population so it doesn't overflow.
