If a town has 100 people and 90 of them buy a PS4 at launch, then a year later the Switch comes out, no fucking shit the Switch will outsell it. The PS4 can only sell a max of 10 units at that point. The reason the PS4 is selling less than the Switch is cuz everyone already fucking has one.

And the PS4 has been wiping the floor with Switch too. This is the first time the Switch edged it out. I'm pretty sure PS4 is still outselling it globally too, since NPD is only US figures and doesn't factor in EU where Sony has a huge presence and Nintendo is exceptionally weak

That's not how console sales work. They never reach the majority of their potential audience at launch. The first year is almost always the weakest. PS4's yearly sales have been increasing with each year, so Switch outselling it now is actually harder than it would have been in PS4's first year.
