2006 for mystic indian spirit walking through alium spaceships

2017 for alium mimics in space stations
>>
>>387470287
Both of them, but play the new one first so you can play the original after and see how much better it is.
>>
>>387470287
2006. Played with a ton of different physics mechanics, portals,wall/ceiling walking, size differences, good art design, fairly original premise (native american magic vs biotech aliens).

NuPrey has literally nothing to do with the other than using its name.
>>
>>387470287
Why not both?

The first one is a very interesting fps. The new prey is nothing like it. Prey 2017 is more like system shock/bioshock. It's exploration heavy. And if you're creative you can access advanced areas early on.
>>
2006 is a pretty generic scifi shooter with some good visual design here and there and some decent gimmicks occasionally. Pretty bland weapon design though.

2017 is System Shock 3 for all the good and bad that that entails. If you're a fan of Deus Ex, System Shock, Thief, etc, you will probably love it, just don't go into it expecting an amazing action game, it's a slow paced atmospheric exploration game.

2017 has a demo now so you might as well just try that and see if it's up your alley.
>>

I was interested in the game but the absurd reverence people have for it is fucking idiotic. The game was cancelled, it's never coming back, get over it. All you ever saw of its actual gameplay was an extremely limited E3 demo that could easily have been all smoke and mirrors. It's not some lost masterpiece, it's just another unremarkable cancelled game, like countless others before it, it just happened to get a really good trailer before it was canned.

People just never seem to learn, they'll say not to trust E3 footage after yet another game inevitably disappoints and then they'll turn around and say what a tragedy it is that Prey 2 was cancelled because it was going to be so amazing based on E3 footage.

Lost a bit of interest in the System Shock 1 remaster now that they've decided to go full re-imagining and ditch the original's aesthetics.

Final game has nothing to do with any of that development history. The thing that made the original remarkable was that it was going to use a new type of rendering technology that would allow for new things in level design and map storage. None of that ended up coming through to the final game. Human Head just used idtech 3 or 4 if I remember right.

Sure it pays lip service by having portals and native americans, but the things that actually made the original incarnation remarkable are entirely absent.

Impossible to know how it'll turn out though. I want to trust Other Side because they have a shitton of people who worked on a lot of my favorite games, but the fact is they haven't released fucking anything yet. I've been waiting on Underworld for years and there's still no hint of when it'll actually come out.

Prey is already out and it's basically everything I would want out of a System Shock game. I have no qualms about describing it as System Shock 3 until the actual SS3 comes out and we can see how it measures up.

System Shock 1 remaster lost me when they pared the HUD down way too far and said they were adding RPG elements. Call me crazy, but I LIKED being able to adjust the power level of my sparqmaster manually, have 4 presets with long shitty animations every time you switch between them, is not an adequate substitute. I also really doubt they'll have the detailed (and bizarre) movement mechanics of the original, which is another big problem in my eyes. It might still turn out good but I lost a lot of interest from the demo and the catering to SS2/BS babbies. Also where the fuck is the source code for SS1 that they promised to release?

There's literally zero connection. Bethesda still owns the old Prey IP, tacked the name on to a completely unrelated Arkane-developed game, it's not a reboot or remake or anything, who knows why. I'm dead serious.

>>
>>387471269
A terribly retarded attempt at exploiting brand recognition for marketing purposes. It backfired horribly and the name probably was one of the main reasons the game sold so terribly. The game is great but all the Prey 2006 fans and idiot Prey 2 worshippers were bound to shit on it non-stop from the instant it was announced because it simply isn't Prey.

I have no idea how Bethesda's marketing team can be so fucking incompetent. I swear, if they end up destroying my favorite studio in this industry, Arkane, I'm never buying another fucking Bethesda game.

>>
>>387472502
>Xbone
You might have trouble, the game really feels like it was designed for M+K. The primary enemy in the game is a little tiny thing that jumps around a lot, easy to deal with with a mouse but I imagine its a nightmare with a gamepad.
>>
>>387472502

Really obnoxious combat in the first hour or two and then completely trivial combat afterwards.
>>
>>387472376
I donated to the Underworld kickstarter but they are really testing my patience. Especially with the demo releases being limited to only the people who paid upwards of 100 dollars. I really want it to be good but it seems like it's progressing at a fucking glacial pace.
>>
>>387472596
>The primary enemy in the game is a little tiny thing that jumps around a lot
That sounds like a fucking nightmare, to be honest. I had enough of that in Quake 1.
>>
>>387472596
Using a gamepad doesn't bother me. In fact, I guess I'm really good with one because Doom was a breeze on Xbone for me. Polygon's gameplay scared me because I thought it was going to be that hard, but it really wasn't
>>
>>387471952

They're gonna put it out when it releases probably.

I'm not sure if they reached the goal they set for refining it or cleaning it up, but they hit the set goals for new locales and said RPG elements.

I bet they're gonna water it down and make the mechanics less flexible and involved. SO many ideas they could toy with and mechanics to make use of but they'll just axe shit most likely. Enemies are gonna be easier, mutants won't be a constant threat, simpler dynamics and less interaction between the player's ability and enemy AI...

I hope I'm wrong cause it'll be a fucking waste if I'm not.
>>
>>387472786
They aren't hard to hit generally because they stay in melee range and your melee attack has a big hit box, but I could see tracking them being a problem with analog camera control.
>>
If they're gonna make sweeping changes to cyberspace for the SS1 remake, I hope they crib from the HL2 mod Dystopia.

It'd make an awesome multiplayer mode too if they were to do that.
>>
>>387472864
>game will come out to big marketing campaign
>normies will try it and call it shit
>will sully the good SS name and kill sales of 3 by association

please let me be wrong

>>387471952
the demo also killed a lot of my enthusiasm for NDs's effort just the general stlye of everything was off. The Enhanced Edition with the Portable mods bundled in was good enough but I'll still probably give that one fan remake (Citadel, I think?) that's been in the works forever a spin if it ever releases, which is never.
>>
>>387472864
>They're gonna put it out when it releases probably
Wut

The fact that the SS1 remake is coming out on consoles is all you need to know about how simplified its going to be. I don't have a problem with consoles generally but their control scheme inherently limits the number of actions that you can take at any given time. Just look at the movement speed in the demo and all their gameplay footage, it's the plodding pace of Bioshock, not the fast speed of SS1 and 2.

I don't think it's going to be unspeakably horrible or anything, I just think it'll be Bioshock in space rather than an actual remake of System Shock 1. And I think Bioshock is fucking boring and mediocre.
>>
>>387472864
>>387471293
OtherSide isn't developing the SS remake. NightDive is. I think the guys at OtherSide just gave their blessings and advice for it

>>

>>
>>387475048

It really is this. SS2 and Prey 2017 are just more of the same. SS1 is clunky as fuck and you will have to take some time to get used to the menu system and memorize the binds to toggle them, but once you do it's a more interesting experience overall.

You're not gonna know how to do or deal with everything at first and that's okay. Save often, and use the durgs to strong arm your way through tight spots. Lean and crouch out of enemy fire and liquify everything you touch with your steel rod and some "berserk"
>>
>>387475820

You can also turn into sanic in that game with the rocket skates and some not-cocaine
>>
>>387475820
I mean I loved Prey and I liked SS2 well enough too, but SS1 is just a fascinating game and it's a pity people get it into their heads that it's somehow unplayable when Enhanced Edition basically fixes all the major accessibility issues it ever had.

That was a CG trailer, but Bethesda had a playable pre-alpha demo, what's commonly called a "vertical slice" which they did some stage demos of at e3 2012.

On another note, check out the plot twist we missed out on, Prey 2 looked like it could have been pretty fun.

you cant compare the two, as they're much different.

PREY is the last great single player linear-yet-interactive FPS a la duke3d, unreal 1, half-life 1, etc. at the time we all thought it was just another regular old FPS, but we didn't know it would be the last of its kind. It's very good.

PREY (2017) is the true "modern" successor to system shock (a la dishonored to thief) and is one of the best surprises of the year, to be honest. it's very good.

Dishonored has some elements of Thief's setting but it's really more of a Deus Ex game. By no means is Dishonored a pure stealth game like Thief. It's much more focused on reactivity and combat.

Don't get me wrong, SS1 is a 10, but SS2 got me more into it. Probably those damn spiders that make the game actually scary for me. And being able to access all the game commands without half the screen taken by the interface.
>>
>>387482728
Most people prefer SS2. I just found SS2 kind of disappointing because the RPG elements felt pretty bland and shitty. Level design, sound design, and atmosphere were all top notch in SS2 but I just preferred SS1.

Fuck Bioshock though, fucking snails pace trash.
>>
>>387470287
Both. Appart from the name, they don't share anything. And both are very good games.

2006 is like a simple FPS with puzzles, some pretty cool weapons. It had a kindda original setting and plot, but it's still a fairly classic single player doom-like. Though it's very good.

2017 is more of a spiritual successor of System Shock 2, excellent level design, lots of explorations, huge customizattions parts for your character... It has an issue with its bestiary which is a too small, but it's still an excellent game.

I really recommand you to play both.
>>
>>387470287
One is a game that was in development for 14 years. An old-schooly shooter with some unique twists like portals and gravity tricks.

Another one is a modern take on System Shock 2 (not to be confused with Bioshock) with all associated pros and cons.

take your pick.
