Yes. 2's level design was fucked up. At least it improved on the music.

Yes both are good. 2 introduced some cool new gameplay mechanics but I stopped caring when I kept getting shot through the map

Yes, I played and beat both. I prefer the first for its simpler, more coherent story (slightly) but I thought both were great.

I have completed both, as well as 2 on Hard mode.
I can safely say that I believe 2 is better than 1 in almost every way, including level design, music, and story. The only thing the first does better is the mask selection.
