They exist to nickle and dime idiots. They're no more functional than a cheap piece of shit you can get for $5.

Just picked up an anne pro from flash quark. Gat reds are really smooth.

Yes
>>
Yes, but mostly because retards buy them thinking it will make them better at vidya. Reality is that they feel better to use than membrane, and if you use your PC for more than 2 hours a day it's a worthwhile expenditure.

Hell, it's not even that big of a moneysink unless you fall for the Das marketing, you can get a Tomoko board with legit cherries for about $30.

The key travel distance alone makes them worth it

They feel better and are more durable and easier to clean out. Also I wipe my ass with that kinda money so who gives a fuck? Poor people? I wouldnt necessarily call them "people"

Just got a cheap one today. Non-cherry switches but it's still a much better experience for typing than the equal-priced membrane I was using before.

Kinda loud, though.

It's a lot better that the 910. The 910 has those fucking retarded keys that are shaped weird. The stems on these keycaps for omron switches are proprietary so you're stuck with them and they peel off very quickly.

Yes, have two.

People saying MKs suck are probably too poor to buy a good one. Once you use one you won't go back to cheap membrane kbs.

Not him but why do poor people find the idea of investments so absurd? If you have money, the best thing to spend it on is investments to make more money, not spend it on useless stuff. If you have enough to buy a new house you can buy it, rent it out, and make someone else pay its mortgage while making money on the side. Literally free cash.

Good build quality and patrician key positioning (the backspace is in the perfect place and once you start using you won't wanna go back). It's still overpriced for what it is, but it's a bit like clothes - some brands are more expensive than others for name alone.
Cheap (but still nice) option to full Topre would be to get pic related and get vintage keycaps of your choice, which is what I've done. desu even the stock keycaps themselves have the vintage aura, just the space can be a bit annoying.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2nxdoARuII
I switched the dome sheet to a 55g and it's a joy to type on. I'll get an RF or HHKB soon though.

Why are people paying tons of money for something I picked up at a Salvation Army for $3? Are old 90's keyboards getting remade and charged out the ass for and marketed as some super slick thing that only the cool people use?
>>
>>387472084
they're customizable/programmable retard
my brother and sisters have these

basically also makes it impossible for anyone else to use your computer because of how personalized your keyboard can be, where you can change keyboard profile, layout quickly and no one could type besides you while also being faster as you move your fingers through less space, need numpad? hold down a key and it's there, shit like that.
>>
>>387473127

The only old keyboards worth a damn are the old Model M's, and even then there's a company in Kentucky that makes them with native USB functionality so you don't need some serial converter.

The only people buying them are /mkg/fags masturbating over muh vintage tech.
>>
>>387473128
>you while also being faster as you move your fingers through less space
Bitch please.
>>
>>387468543
No. They are pretty good if you need to do a lot of typing. They usually avoid the ghosting issue with other keyboards as well, so you won't have to worry about missing inputs while typing. I guess they work for gaming too, but the differences between mechanical and non-mechanical for gaming aren't wide enough that you must invest in one. If you're on the fence, I'd only recommend switching if you have a fair amount of typing to do or just have money laying around. Just like most peripherals though, avoid the "HARDCORE GAMING" brands to save money and save yourself a headache.
You can test for ghosting yourself by holding down both shift keys on your keyboard and typing out "THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPED OVER THE LAZY DOG". If it doesn't come out correctly, your keyboard has ghosting.
>>
>>387473485
Or people who want a $5 mechanical keyboard. I picked up an old g80 from goodwill and it still feels better then all the rubber dome shit, even though its almost 20 years old

They are a bit excessive but they're nice to own, that's about it. Even a cheap shitty 5-10 dollar keyboard will serve you well and last you forever. Mechanical keyboards are typically made out of nicer feeling materials and offer more variety and customization. They can feel really nice. I'd say it's similar to taking a standard decent car and adding more comfy seating to it with some extra useless flair. It doesn't make the car perform any better but some people may like the change.

Probably the best change you get on higher end keyboard is no ghosting which can make a huge difference in gaming for a few genres and titles but you will often not notice it on most things you do. You can get some rubber dome keyboards that have pretty good anti-ghosting.
>>
I think the least meme of mechanical keyboards are the ones with analog switches. Being able to control speed of movement with a single key is pretty cool.
>>
>>387468543
You only really need gaming keyboard and mouse if you wanna be tryhard at multiplayer games.
>>
I'm not sure the gaming benefits are worth it, but using a mechanical keyboard with blue switches is wonderful for typing.

No clue, I own a Compaq media keyboard and it's pretty satisfying to use. Has a nice low pitch to it's noise when I use it and the keys are responsive & have a good travel distance. Plus they're really cheap.
>>
>>387468643
Comfort is what they offer. Which is important considering that you spend countless hours on your computer. It's like calling people retards for buying nice shoes when they could get $15 pieces of shits that just perform the bare functions of shoes
>>
