This fucking card game better not be one of those VR games.
>>
Anyone tried the gear VR with a high res phone? How does it compare to the rift and vive, particularly the pixel density? Would it be possible to connect it to a computer?
>>
>>387456031
If The Lab was anything to judge by, whatever they come up with should be pretty damn mindblowing.

>>387456580
Have no experience with phone VR stuff but I can't imagine it being very good. No head tracking, inferior resolution, no motion/tracked controllers... seems like it would limit what you can actually do.

But if you jut want to use it for videos (porn, for example), just get the google cardboard. It's less than $20 and can probably give at least a decent experience. The porn is definitely worth watching at least once.

Just want to interject for a moment to make sure people know there's an effort to get a VR general going. Right now we've been using /g/ as all the other options aren't quite fit for a VR general (/v/ doesn't allow generals, /vg/ doesn't have many catalog browsers, and both boards go too fast for the thread to stay alive long, while /g/ allows generals and also is slower). If you guys have any ideas, I'll take them.

Current thread is here >>>/g/61951133

I wish i had the money to get into VR. I tried it at my brothers house one day and it was amazing.
>>
>>387457252
Yeah I also forgot to say but /g/ also "works" because VR is about more than just games, even though right now it's mainly about the games. That's been sort of the excuse for now but if you have any better ideas I'm listening.

KF: Incursion came out yesterday. For those who got it, how are you enjoying it? Dunno if it's just me but the aiming feels off just ever so slightly.

Also the co-op mode seems to not be working.
>>
What's better, the Rift or the Vive? I can get the Rift with the controllers for $350 right now, the Vive is still $800, and my playspace is basically just my chair.
>>
>>387457528
>and my playspace is basically just my chair.
Rift.

The main benefit of the vive is slightly better FOV and better tracking (particularly roomscale) overall.

The rift is designed more as a sit-down experience device. It has a slightly smaller FOV, but better clarity, and (universally-praised as) better controllers. You can get sensors to improve room-scale tracking to vive levels, but it will suffice with the included two sensors (1x with HMD, 1x with controllers).
>>
>>387457528
Vive is generally agreed to be objectively better. Is it double the price better though? Probably not.

At this point, a Rift is probably the better choice. If you want to spend big bucks, wait for the V2 headsets which will probably be leaps and bounds better than anything we have now.
>>
>>387457528
>I can get the Rift with the controllers for $350

Hol up, where you seeing that? That's even better than the regular sale price right now. Actually it's exactly what the DK2 costed I believe. That's pretty great actually, the DK2 didn't even have controllers.
>>
>>387456580
I used it with my S6, think of it as a demo for better technology. None of them look particularly sharp though.
>>
>>387457160
Thanks for the notice, I didn't know /g/ was organizing VR generals.
>>
>>387457528
Have never used the Vive but if I had the money for it, I would get that instead for two main reasons. 1- better tracking in that you don't need to be facing a sensor for it to know where you are in the play space. 2- it only uses one USB port and it doesn't need to be 3.0.

That said, the Rift is the same thing on all fronts and that price alone more than makes up for those two shortcomings. Expect wires all over the place though as it uses a lot of them.
>>
>>387457528
Vive was just $200 off a few days ago, you missed it.

>>387457871
It was $400 and came with a $100 gift card on Prime Day.
>>
>>387457853
>Vive is generally agreed to be objectively better.

I like how people actually believe that, the Oculus hate sure was strong.
>>
>>387458050
expensive = better, by most metrics.
>>
>>387457942
>Expect wires all over the place though as it uses a lot of them.

Implying the vive lighthouses don't need to plug into power outlets, meaning wires are still everywhere.

They do have the TPCast though.
>>
>>387457942
>better tracking in that you don't need to be facing a sensor for it to know where you are in the play space

Not really, the lighthouse base stations are similar to sensors where they have a FOV. The only thing is that the Rift sensors are like 100 degree and the lighthouse is like 120 degrees, which makes it easier to setup.

Running lighthouses to power outlets is a lot less cumbersome than having USB extension cables everywhere. Also potential for backpack PCs unlike Oculus.

>>387458050
It is, and it has much better third party support for accessories.

I got a psvr, any suggestions on games to play with it? still working on setting stuff up to use it on pc with the move controllers, mainly just need to make the space for the cameras and stuff
>>
>>387458209
Except when one company's product is financed by essentially a Microsoft Xbox strategy while the other is basically a licenced manufacturer without revenue from any software sales since they're running on Steam.
>>
>phone drains battery while charging just to render 1080p video
>new phone or proper headset cost prohibitive
Disappointing.
>>
>>387458429
Can't they just make beter sensors for the rift? Seems like that would solve a lot of problems.

I haven't actually run into any of those problems but still it would be nice to have stronger sensors.
>>
DOA until they add native support for the games people already own.
>>
>>387458429
Nice reddit copy pasta. Like I said

>people actually believe that crap

Anyone who actually owns a Rift will not say they've encountered the problems listed there although not everything he said is false (lower sensor FOV is true).
>>
>>387458674
It's basically just using image recognition. It's never going to be an elegant solution because you have to balance resolution, bandwidth, and processing, whereas lighthouse is just basic photo sensors and predetermined timing.

>>
>>387458878
Doesn't matter when the solution works just well enough for people even though they had some bugs at first in the software. True the setup is a pain but we'll be moving to inside-out tracking anyway.
>>
>>387458429
Won't debate you on the lighthouse ordeal. Honestly, I wish the rift had a similar system.

Maybe if I get gen 2, I'll go Vive. You guys get all the cool developments nowadays anyway. I don't hear a thing on the Rift side. Though, I prefer the analog sticks present on the rift controllers, and it seems the vive would just have clones of the Steam controller's pads.

>>
>>387459134
You must not be paying attention, we already know Oculus is working on eye tracking, inside-out tracking, natural focusing screens, AR, as well as getting wireless adapters which TPCast has announced.
>>
>>387459198
Standard movement is teleportation mode but you can't just teleport wherever or whenever you want. But there's also just a regular classic twin stick movement mode. People tend to experience motion sickness with the latter but the choice is offered if you're one of those people who never gets VR sickness.
>>
>>387459259
Thanks for missing the point.
>>
Uncle gave me his PSVR a while ago because he never used it. I heard Trinus VR will let me hook it up to my PC, but does anyone know how reliable to tracking is? Can I just hook up a bunch of webcams to my room and use it like a Vive? Or am I SOL and I have a worthless piece of plastic?
>>
>>387459603
sounds pretty good how much is it ?
>>
>>387459484
Wait, what? I've heard nothing about any of these notes, and I've scoured all sort of sites and videos. I did hear something about eye tracking, but I thought that was just some third party working on something for themselves.

Any sources to what you're talking about?

I was playing through a mildly creepy part in Lone Echo and was basically pleading to the almighty for no spook. I'm not sure I can handle an actual horror game in VR.

Also, here's a source for TPCast coming to Rift. There are also other companies working on wireless adapters for both headsets mind you, but they might not release so soon. https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/6nuj2z/tpcast_wireless_addon_for_oculus_rift_will_be/
