Daggerfall is generic and copypasted (way more than skyrim or oblivion) with shitty mechanics. It's put on a pedestal because of its age. Tons of people assume that it must be better because it's old and they heard it's big. Graphics are the least of its worries.

how come? Ive played it recently and found it excellent. The sheer freedom in gameplay and mechanics is nearly unmatched.
I'd love to see a remake/spiritual sequel set in the same area that took the best elements of the next three elder scrolls and mixed it all together

I know the bugs are easily fixed by patches, but I think it throws too many ideas together. It makes the game seem less cohesive. Whenever you go out of town there's just nothingness while the towns are pretty huge. You can't kill any people in their houses (only guards in palaces, no one else). Too many skills that could be combined into only a handful. Dungeons are kinda cool but since they're mostly randomly generated, they're often confusing, lack vision/purpose and don't make much sense. They're also harder to navigate (even though that wasn't really a problem with me personally)
