I mean, I could see it being the other way around easily enough - when RE6 sucked dick it SUCKED DICK. But, I would do something like collecting McGuffins in a mazelike section crawling with those enemies that split in half, finding those chips in the mansion part of Jake's campaign, the snake sequence in Chris's campaign, or solving puzzles in the catacombs in Ada's campaign and it's like RE6 had a part that was actually fun for every half-dozen sequences that sucked. In retrospect can think of maybe 20 minutes worth of gameplay in RE5 that I actually enjoyed. It was just a worse RE4 - shittier pacing, shittier new ideas that RE6 actually managed to do better, and forced co-op implementation. Sheva's cool and I didn't hate Lost In Nightmares but God, I despise that game otherwise. RE6 at least made me crack a smile on very rare occasion.

RE is action in the sense that classic survival horror in general is just a subgenre of action adventure so you could level that same observation at franchises like Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, and Siren. RE did move away from horror faster than its often credited for as Nemesis foreshadows RE4's direction while even RE2 and Code Veronica were less of a tight, nervous experience than RE1 was, but even then the horror element has been present throughout the series and titles like RE1 and arguably RE0 made that prevalent, something that RE7 attempts to return to.

For me it has a deep seated place in me, but for odd reasons. When i was 9, Resident Evil 2 was something i played to death, and it was literally the most horrifying concept of a game i lnew about. Years later i played Code Veronica on my PS2. Then, sometime in 2002, i found Resident Evil for PS1 fucking NEW SEALED. And don't know how i kept missing out on it.

Anyway, when i played it, it looked just like RE2 which i had played to death, i got to see WAY more of the city, which was always the most detailed section of RE2, and it brought back that horror that RE2 left me with. It's not the best one, but it came in my life way after RE2 and felt like someone had really expanded on my favorite experince. It was like someone said "only joking, the RE2 credits aren't the end, here is more game you forgot about"
