From what I understand, the last Disney animated movie before that one was Tangled or Princess and the Frog, not sure, and merchandise wise, it tanked. Nothing had moved. Because of that, TRU decided to play it safe when ordering merchandise for Frozen. Remember, that order is put in like four or more months before the film even comes out. In the end, we had people literally calling the store every day asking if there was anything that came into the store in the last truck. Parents would wait outside the door two or three days out of the week (truck days) to just get the chance to get one of those dolls.

So, I can see TRU blowing it again and not working out their order contracts in their favor as they could.

Releasing years behind everyone else on weaker hardware was their downfall with that system and it will be here too. Watch as by this time next year there are only shit indies, first party Nintendo games and purchased exclusives on it. Third party multiplatform support will not exist, and in this era of gaming that is the lifeblood of the industry. Nintendo is just in the enviable position of having such dedicated fans that they can hold on for another generation.

From the portable perspective a Switch midgen update is theoretically possible.

If you look at as a console NIntendo consoles typically get cheaper and stay the same or get much cheaper and get worse (e.g. the Wii Revision)

Other than that, the usual time-value suggestion. There will undoubtedly be bundles for Christmas, though it may be similarly difficult if not harder to get.
